Well that's all very interesting. But even after all that effort debating, there doesn't seem to be the winning idea for caterham appearing. Or did I miss it?
Current bets are either:- It's the recent 310, and Caterham's marketing team were getting over-excited, or
- It's something else, that has yet to be announced.

I know it's hard to believe but that's it.
Posted on Blatchat, maybe the new product isn't the 310 after all!! As a Club member I might pop along to see it.
Caterham Cars – EXCLUSIVE CLUB OPPORTUNIY FOR A PRE-LAUNCH PREVIEW
Caterham have told the Club that they are going to be unveiling something really quite special at the Goodwood Revival in a couple of weeks.
Better still, they would like to invite a handful of Club members to an exclusive private reveal of what is currently under wraps. This will take place at Caterham's xxx showroom on the evening of xxx September. This is first time that the manufacturer has ever held a product reveal prior to its public presentation, so this really is a unique opportunity; we are delighted that the Club is being invited to see what’s new at the same time as the dealers.

I have to say the discussion above makes for very interesting reading, I really appreciate the incite of those of you with the specialist knowledge!
From my perspective, I think I'd agree with parts of lots of what has been said, but personally don't think a mid engine solution is right for Caterham, not for any particular technological reasons, but purely from a driving dynamics point of view. One of the biggest selling points (for me at least) with a Caterham is the adjustability at the limit, which in my experience is something that is not the same in a MR car. Maybe this is something that it is possible to engineer into a MR car, but I think the WAY it drives is key to a Caterham, not just the fact that it's very quick.

It will of course be very interesting to hear what the annoucment is later this week.
And it's great to speculate on all the things it could be with engine layouts etc, but I have to say it's going to be another iteration of the seven we all know and love.
So it will be a very special, and some would say the ultimate seven model, but it is going to be no more than that, a seven as we all know it, and I'm sure it will be fantastic!

I think this is a very good point, and actually ties in a bit with what I was saying (well, meaning). If Caterham were to develop some kind of MR platform, then whatever it is, it won't really be an evolution of the Seven, but they COULD make a more significant evolution of the Seven using different chassis tech, IRS, and better aero, whilst still keeping it a recognisable evolution of the Seven. And it's great to speculate on all the things it could be with engine layouts etc, but I have to say it's going to be another iteration of the seven we all know and love.

That said, I'm (unfortunately) prepared to bet that the announcement won't be anything that exciting. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess it'll be an electric drive train in a Seven.... just guessing but it wouldn't surprise me.

Far too forward-looking for Caterham, I fear: Westfield only did it a couple of decades ago. Hell, it would even mean them catching up with Morgan.Cynicism aside though, I'll be very surprised if it's an EV, as (unlike Westfield, Morgan, Ariel and Zenos, who have all been very actively making noises in this area), I've heard not the slightest rumour of Caterham taking an interest. Doesn't really tally with the development coming out of their motorsports programme, either.

I have to agree - front mid for me too. That said I did drive one of the Radical Challenge cars and that was very benign and throttle adjustable at the limit - but then that doesn't have a heavy car engine behind the driver.Re EV, I really can't see that and I'm not convinced it makes any sense going down that route at this point in time. It would be heavy for a start and that is against the Caterham ethos. Sometime down the line when batteries become much lighter, legislation much tougher they might well be forced down that route.

CSR 620?
I get the feeling they have given up on the CSR - it's still available for sale (only the 260) but I can't recall when one was last roadtested. I'm sure if they felt that it would come out better in comparison tests they would continue to push it. Anyone know actual sales figures?Gassing Station | Caterham | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
