there was a little piece in the sun (forgive my reading material) motoring section Thursday saying lego has supplied five million bricks for a car lauch later this month. The caterham site has pics of bricks all over the place so could it be them?

Oh by the way, hello, long long long time lurker coming out from under the covers

Ok great, I take it we were all getting tired with the constant negative comments by a certain person.

He's gone very quiet hasn't he by the way?

Back to the topic of the original poster re the ultimate seven that is due for Annoucment this week, I personally am very much looking forwards to it, and I am sure that it will be a great seller too.

After all the release of the Twenty this time last year was enough for me to make a decision within hours to buy one, so I wonder if the same level of rush to buy will happen with this new car too?

Personally I am pleased for Caterham as they seem to have almost gone back to their roots and got themselves back on an even a profitable business model,,whilst remaining true to the core values of the seven.

I wish them all a great deal of success!

Oh god, I really hope they're not actually going to claim that the Lego model is the "Ultimate Seven Product"

The are leaks regarding a new product appearing at Goodwood, beautiful retro style 7 by the look of it, looks like 160 with clams and dressed in 50's/60's bits.... since I won't be able to afford it am sadly more interested in the Lego one :-)

Well it's been leaked already by the Lotus Seven Club France!

For the life of me, I can't see what's ultimate about that. Nostalgic yes, ultimate? Really? Presumably this is just a commemoration for next year's 60 year bash?

I've tried to avoid cynicism since I bought my 7 but I do wish Caterham would fix some of their more obvious failings rather than play games with endless product changes and introductions.

If that's it then the 310 was scintillating by comparison.

Illegal number plate!

Oh dear, I always liked the S2 Seven, but one of the things I always admired with Caterham, was the never ending search for improvement in performance.

The 160 got away with it's lack of performance by being the cheapest in the range and by all accounts a hoot to drive.

This is going to be much more expensive as it is obviously a limited edition. I don't like the white wheels, spindly roll cage, louvre-less bonnet and the whole retro pastiche look. It doesn't suit the Caterham brand, and is much more Morgan frown

Well, that was anti-climatic.

Wasn't it meant to have had engineers quivering with excitement or something?

"From £27,995" for an 80bhp Suzuki engined retro-styled car. What an absolute bloody joke!

And the thread (including comments of mine without the expletive!) has apparently been deleted from Blatchat. I guess because some club members were invited to an exclusive preview and signed a NDA.

But an increase of over £10,000 for a few retro bits and bobs is an absolute disgrace. I don't know about the engineers but I bet the accountants were all aquiver.

The thread is still there this morning..... I kind of quite like it, although not in the market for a new 7 (doubt I'll ever be). Certainly wouldn't shoot anyone down for buying one.

I wonder what the perception would have been had the thread been entitled "Limited edition retro model to be launched"

Yep I can still see the thread on blatchat too this morning?

Or was there another thread we missed that was removed?

Not sure what the connection between Lotus seven club France and the U.K., I don't suspect they are joined in any way, but I wonder where they got the information from which was all supposed to be embargoed until 9 am today!

Of course I should say, that if it is like last years announcement, regarding our Superlight Twenty models, then it was actually Goodwood press office who released it a day before Caterham made their own official press release.

Well my perception would have been the same; it's another poorly prioritised, arguably illogical model launch in a series of launches and model changes whilst long standing real issues remain unchallenged.

Anyway, it does appear that the 310 was the so called 'ultimate' 7, for what that's worth.

Well I think it has a bit of 'panache'. I love the way it has been styled with a lot of thought.. So easy to do badly, hard to do properly..

A Goodwood launch will be perfect.

It's been very nicely done. It's cute and the Japanese will love it. But I still don't see £10,000 of added value.
After all the pre-launch hype I still find it a major disappointment.

I suspect you are bang on with the Japanese connection, they are hoovering up as many 160's as they can lay their hands on, and conforming to the Kei regulations means it's perfect for that market too.

As they are only going to make 60 cars in total, would not be in the least surprised if most of them end up getting sold to Japanese customers.

I do like it though, it has a very nice old school charm to it!!
