Hi all,
I'm picking up a new 620R next month. First Caterham for a while but couldn't think of a better track car that I could drive to circuits.
Question, when running slicks do you all stick to the 13 " wheels or go bigger?
Nest question , does anyone have a set of wheels they want to sell?

Not much banter on 620r on here?

Has anyone been to TTS to turn theirs?

You need to stick to 13". Thats largely due to 2 reasons.

1. The cars ride better on 13"
2. There is significantly more tyre size choice.

Stick to the rim widths you have or you can increase to 7.5" front and 8.5" rears. The front change will necessitate a wing change also.

If not competing I doubt there is a reason to change the fronts.

There should be wheels coming available every so often - but not maybe exactly what you already have.

I will have new wheels available in a couple of weeks. Centres being made this week. Rims ready.

Compomotive CXR wheels now back in stock off the shelf.

I have a 620R on order and am also wondering about spare wheels but not planning to use slicks as I'm not racing, just track days.

I was thinking that I would use the ZXR's on dry track and get a spare set of the Caterham Apollo wheels fitted with ZXS's for the road and when wet?
I have heard mixed reviews about the ZXS's in the wet though so may consider something else now.

I have a R500 and was running on ZZR's. Found them great on track but you cant really get them up to temperature on the road. As you would expect they are also useless in the wet. So bought an extra set of wheels and running ZZS's on road and ZZR's on track. This seems to work really well. Find its only really the long sweeping corners where i cant keep up with the boys on slicks. Will probably move to slicks next, but only because its more economical.

I've just taken collection of my first Caterham;a new 620R SV and enjoyed taking out at brands for a dry trackday last week! There's not a lot that'll keep up on track, that's for sure!!! Now that the weathers turned cold and wet,I was considering a spare set of wheels with wets, and wondered what folks were using both in terms of wheels and tyres...?

Any advice appreciated.

Many thanks,
Dan

While no-doubt fun why does the OP needs slicks? Sounds a bit like turning up to a knife fight with a machine gun...

I currently use Michelin slicks on Mike Barnby wheels. As for why - you'll pick up used slicks from race teams (maybe done a single race or quali) for £30 a corner and even used will out-grip and out-last any semi-slick road tyre.

Problems are getting the sizes right. I've had issues with the sizes available. Michelin used to do a 22/54/13 which was a perfect rear but you can't get them in the UK as none of the race series use them and the "official" importer refuses to import them. Also for fronts they used to do a 16/53/13 which was the perfect Caterham size, but again discontinued.

I currently use a 20/54/13 front under a wider wing but it can have trouble getting up to temp. I also use a 23/57/13 rear but about to stop as it has issues rubbing the arches on extreme compression (after Lodge at the compression for Deer Leap at Oulton) - it is possibly "over tyred" for the car as the back end never ever gets loose but you do experience push-on understeer. I may try using the 20/54/13 all round next year, or perhaps just use ZZRs, or perhaps Kumhos....decisions decisions...

Out of curiosity, what's the PCD of a "modern" Caterham?

Greig, that's the offset.
PCD (stud spacing) is 108mm

Ah b*gger.

I thought I might have had the ideal set of wheels I've just put in the classifieds but they are a 95.25mm PCD so must be for an earler Caterham.

Thanks for replying though.

TTS where approached by Caterham initially regarding the 620 but Caterham decided to do their own thing. My TTS tuned Supercharged Zetec engine Phoenix made 400BHP and a Duratec engine Chevron made 450BHP so there is more to come out of the de-tuned 620 if you want it.

As far as slicks are concerned I'm using 175/530 front and 210/550 x 13 rears, Avon slicks which fit 6J & 8J wheels fine.
