Hi,

A little tyre advice please. My track day wheels (CR500s on 15" wheels) have about one track day left in them and I am looking to change to 13 x 6 wheels. I only do about 6 track days per year and the car is a 125 sigma roadsport so not a lot of power. Does anyone have any recommendations on tyres. Price doesn't seem to exclude anything but I don't want to spend money on fantastic tyres which will be past their sell by date before I wear them out. (I'm a tight git at heart smile ) I tend to drive quite smoothly and try to maintain traction rather than any dramatics.

I think I will be going for 185/60/R13 and have narrowed it down to one of...

Toyo R888R - tried and tested, mid price
Avon ZZS - safe (but more expensive) choice. Think these are 185/55/13
Dare I say it.... Nankang NS2R (120 compound)? I've not yet found anyone who has used these, although a lot of people seem interested in them

Does anyone have any opinions on the above or alternate recommendations?

many thanks

Kevin

I did the same, went from 15" CR500, to 13" CR500 and now I have a set of ZZS too.

The ZZS have a good bit more grip on the track - the sidewall is stiffer too so you feel like you can lean on them a bit more. On the road I'd say the CR500 is still the nicer tyre as it has a bit more give and isn't quite as jarring.

Many thanks Andy. I think the Avons may win over in the end.

Peter, I assume you mean the V70A. For some reason they haven't come up during my searches so thanks for the heads up. They sound like a good option too.

I have NSR fitted to the rear of mine, seem grippy enough and at £60 a corner I'm not complaining, I think they made the ride a bit harder than before, may be down to them being XL.

We've run Caterhams on kumho, Toyo R888r and ZZR/ZZS and having driven on them all too the Toyo gets my vote consistent handling throughout the wear and very good grip not snappy on the limit.

When I had a 1.6ss, I went from the old Avon A032's to Toyo R888's and found them excellent.

Now running an R400 and have gone from CR500's to ZZS's and also found them great.

Thanks all. I think the R888s will win out of the above. Having said that there is an inch of rain forecast for Pembrey tomorrow so I think I'll be tip-toeing round on my road tyres, or sitting in the car drinking coffee with the wipers on intermittent. You gotta love the British summer smile
