It's about passing off not copyright. Caterham would rightly say they are gaining advantage from the Caterham mark and the money that (the real) caterham have spent on establishing it.

In the past Caterham even got angsty about the se7ens mailing list. So there if you type the word caterham the list server changes it to badgerham!!! biggrin

Hmm good question - not sure about that given that Caterham is obviously a placename and you can't copyright those. (As far as I know anyway) Otherwise Caterham(Cars) would be thinking about suing anything/business with 'Caterham' in the name?

I wonder though.....

Which is why I was wondering rather than making a bold statement.

That said it should be noted that Soft Bits for Sevens are also leveraging the brand as well seemingly without issue.

Lots of people use the name without issue- in SBFS it is largely complementary to the brand . It's not a criminal thing obviously so any action is entirely at Caterham's discretion- and cost. But if you made a little two seater with bug eyed lights and called it Seven you may well be getting a call from Messrs Sue Grabbit and Run....

Yes, I guess that Caterham might be a bit more relaxed about it these days. Or their budget for lawyers' letters fees has been cut!

I'm missing a trick here.

I personally own the kit needed to design nonsense carbon parts (3d scanner & CAD package) & have the contacts to get them manufactured.

Seams like easy money to me.

Easy money if there are enough caterham owners with more money than sense.

I'd be the first to agree they're expensive and there's no real case to be made for fitting them but there will be sales and there'll be many more if the price is lower.

If it's easy money then show us what you've got.

Weight is best saved on Unsprung weight and rotational inertia. IIRC, it's something like 1kg of Unsprung weight is equivalent to 3kg of sprung weight, and 1kg of rotational inertia saved is 5kg of sprung weight. Or something like that....
But the carbon light blocks are much nicer to look at than those hefty rubber caravan light blocks that CC use. Lots of little things all add up smile

Hey guys,

Thank you for flagging up the potential issues regarding the company name, I took this on board and it is now under and registered as Classic Carbon.

This doesn't affect the quality, products or the service, just the branding.

The website will have an overhaul very soon, but for now the products are available here.

www.ClassicCarbon.co.uk

kind regards,
David

Hi there David, I was chasing you all last week to find out where my parts were as I hadn't had any contact from you since ordering and it had been over a month. The email provided on your website bounces but I managed to track down a phone number for you but you didn't reply to my voicemail or text messages.

My friend messaged you on Facebook (I don't have an account) and you then sent the parts. I'd like to discuss the quality of them with you. Could you please provide some up to date contact details that can reach you please? Thanks.

Hi Ste,

I think you were using my old email address hence the bouncing back? (should be David@ClassicCarbon.co.uk)

Yes I haven't been about last week and some of the week before, as I have been preoccupied with the birth of my daughter and due to complications required us to be in hospital throughout that time, Sadly my choice of network seems too poor to get signal where I need it.
The parts were sent as soon as I got home and could do the final touches regardless of the lack of sleep.
I have only been told today that I have had voicemails during that time that I was in no way trying to avoid, I will amend the website to provide better contact clarity.

I did reply to your friend and informed him of the delays and reasons that I hoped were fed back?

Anyhow, I am back at last and have called you reference your issue and currently working on this.

kind regards
David
