Does it get cheaper the less miles you put down?
Yes but most don't go below 3000. Does any one have advice on how various companies handle claims, as that's what counts, not quibbling over £50 between different premiums, i.e. service over price
I've been with REIS for many years in their various guises, mainly because they understand 7s and they have always been very good over the phone, but as has been suggested above it's how claims are dealt with that is ultimately the important factor, but you never know how it will be until you need it.
So, I got to find out in 2015 after a serious accident abroad. Car was all but written off in an accident on 11 September, it was repatriated to a repairer of my choice for assessment on 28 September. By 5 October a full repair quote was submitted and an independent assessor gave the green light for work to commence on 14 October. All work was subsequently carried out and I collected the car on 28 December.
The 7 was originally on an Agreed Value of £20k and following the work, and further upgrades undertaken at the same time, REIS agreed to an increase in the Agreed Value to £27,500.
In addition to the above I have had reason to use the Legal Services that was included in the insurance and they have been very helpful in trying to resolve our uninsured losses claim. Hopefully that will finally be concluded very shortly. This part has been a bit of a nightmare (not insurer/solicitor's fault) as although the accident happened in Europe, Switzerland is not part of the EU and that has brought added complications.
Nevertheless, I have no complaints about how the motor insurance claim was handled.

This was the latest thread I could find on Caterham insurance - been doing some ringing around to get quotes on a prospective purchase and have tried most listed on this thread and another older one.
Car is a Duratec R400. I couldn't get 100% like for like quotes and excesses vary, along with number of trackdays, but it's interesting how much they vary given the underlying insurers are the same for a few.
Previous ownership includes Westfield, VX220 turbo and I've a number of trackdays under my belt - nothing in the last few years however.
Caterham Insurance - £665 with 5 trackdays (£610 without trackdays)
A-Plan - £461 with 5 trackdays
Footman James - £458 with 3 trackdays, agreed value, £0 salvage in write off (£308 without trackdays)
MSM - waiting for quote back, will update
REIS - ask for 1 year of ownership prior to requesting a quote
Obviously a bit of choice between two there, I've heard very good things about A-Plan in terms of claims and the 5 trackdays might swing it. The insured my last Westfield too and remember them being helpful on a change of address.
Anyone else worth a try? From my 'Max Power' days calling Adrian Flux every year and receiving whopping quotes on a 106 Gti I've never bothered with them again, but sure there are a few more.
