Using a Caterham 7 daily?

Well, I might if I had another car to use. Maybe I'd take the Caterham once or twice a week and the barge the other days. Depends what you do for a living as well. Bricklayer? I'd rather have a barge for the journey home. Sat on your arse all day staring at numbers half asleep, maybe a C7 will get you up in the morning and put a spring in your step on the way out of the office in the evening?
Cock Womble 7 commutes, or certainly did commute, in a Caterham. He was very active on PH but I haven't seen anything from him for ages. He probably got banned. He became uninhibited as evenings wore on.
One place I worked a colleague commuted in a Lotus 7 all year round. I don't think he did a thousand miles a week, though. Wobbly web wheels and everything.

I had an S1 Exige which eventually became a 380bhp Honda engined weapon.
Even before modification trying to drive a couple hundred miles in a business suit was difficult and after modding a shower was required on arrival.
Fresh chicken easily cooked on the trip home from Waitrose. Not so good for Ice cream though.
In winter it was a nightmare to keep on the road and even see out of the windscreen.

I sold mine quite quickly and bought an S1 Elise because it was much more practical. Did over 80k miles in it over 5 years. Could even fit a large frame mountain bike it the passenger seat if it was broken down a bit. Other than earplugs and a hat it was not much different to using any other car to me. Struggled a bit in snow and bounced off standing water a bit, but mostly managed to keep it in a straight line. Was probably the most reliable car I’ve ever had and I miss it every day. It’s the one I shouldn’t have sold.

I commuted in a MG midget for a while. Occasionally when I left work the sun was shining and the car was working well, but most of the time it was cold, wet and unreliable. ecsrobin said:

Doing anything more than a couple of hundred per week - you want comfort, quiet and an unencumbered relaxing environment.
Preferably with good seats, light effortless steering and an outstanding audio system.
That’s coming from someone that spent years commuting significant distances.
