Hi All,

Can't get onto Blatchat so thought I'd try here for some help.

I have potentially a fault with my MBE ECU. It came fitted to my R300 1.8 k-series (2002 EU2 Roller Barrels), and I've been advised that I can connect this to a laptop to check what the fault is. Trouble is I don't have a trailing lead from the ECU that this laptop cable connects to, and having just spoken to SBD, they say these ECUs are locked by Caterham and cannot be adjusted/played with.

What's my next step? Go back to Caterham (don't really want to deal with them) or get the ECU checked over by SBD? Could it be that I can simply add in this trailing lead?

Thanks for any help,
Chris

You can access, the codes are simple.
I do not have them to hand at the moment.
You can connect a pc lead it is just a matter of obtaining a comms cable and putting the connectors in the multi plug, again these are easy to obtain from some suppliers.

Thanks Peter,

Do you (or anyone else) have a wiring diagram for the trailing socket? I've already got some of the ECU Pins so I'm hoping that's all I need (and the D-Type plug)...

Maybe just got a guy at SBD that doesn't know his a**e from his elbow...

Cheers,
Chris

Sure,

it's 'green77@britpost.com', many thanks for this. Don't suppose you know where I can get the female D Type connector from close to Reading?

Cheers,
Chris

Hi Peter,

Before I do this, are you certain that all R300s were supplied with the same ECU? Or do Caterham deliberately take the trailing lead out (bought mine 2nd hand, but it was originally factory built)? And from the SBD website I'm guesing it's the Easymap 5 I'll need? Fingers crossed the beast will start over the weekend...

No caterham in my view was supplied with any comms cable with the MBE ECU.
I have done several myself.
The Caterham supplied map is a generic map that is supplied to all the R300/R400/R500 models.
My R500 generic Minister map was not that good for my engine, and i and quite a few members have had mapping sessions done to alievate the the common problems encountered including hopping throttle response and have gained much better power than caterhams have.
Also mine could not achieve the MOT gas test because of hight carbon content.
Beleive me re- mapping your engine on a reputable rolling road will certainly improve your car no end.

Chris

Like I said in my email I'll happily give you a call to see if I can guide you through.

Peter is right, no Caterham was supplied with the mapping plug wired in.

The maps have changed over the year; I have at least two R300 maps, which are slightly different.

Hi all,

Does the ECU-PC lead need the resisters (http://www.sbdev.co.uk/Main.htm) wired in? I've been loaned a cable, but having checked the resisters are missing and it says on the SBD website you can damage both ECU & PC... (having said that Anthony who loaned me the cable must have used it??)

You have to use the correct lead, the one with the resistors etc.

If the resistors are not present in Anthony's cable this could be because they have been wired in to the engine loom?

None of the Caterham looms have comms connections. Only the new cars which use can-bus have connectors as standard.

Thanks Guys.
I've made up my trailing lead, so all I need now is the ECU-PC cable, which RJ is kindly loaning me. Hopefully I'll get things sorted next weekend...
