R500 with the sequential box
Discussion
So..... On the road back from Caterham, along the A22....a public road, you gunned it enough to notice the difference between an R500 with 260bhp and K2RUM with..who knows how much is claimed.
I'd suggest you're either talking out of your backside or... you need locking up as that road is feckin busy and to notice the difference you talk about, must've been pulling through the power band in a high gear where you feel the difference..so you were pulling 3 figure speeds...
The track, that would be different, but on the road...with limited driving talent and other road users around driving at/ near the speed limit...complete tosser!

Ewen..I'm merely suggesting that the claims made are indeed possibly non factual following a drive on open public roads, and am slightly perturbed that, knowing that stretch of the A22 and knowing that there are numerous fatal accidents along that stretch, the person in question was demonstrating a car capable of stupid speeds. I would assume that the new R500 would be similarly quick as K2RUM on any normal road..

Surely the R500 would be much quicker if we including time spent waiting for the AA?!Sorry Arnie, couldn't resit that!
I don't think Arnie is suggesting that he has driven the R500, or driven it irresponsibly down the A22 at "three figure speeds" - he said it was the journo's opinion.
What sort of journo are we talking about here? I'd be suprised if a good journo who spends their life driving fast cars couldn't tell the difference, you dont have to drive at 100% to see the difference and lets be honest 100bhp per ton is not a small little jump in power is it?
Anyway, getting tired of all the willy waving - mines massive by the way

Danmalk, whoever mentioned driving between Caterham and East Grinstead? You seem to have a very granular account considering that like me, my car, the R500 and Journalist in question you were never on the A22 when this alleged drive took place.
And the 100BHp per tonne quote was from the journo in question, not me. And I never said which car he felt was strongest.
Atom-ick - Sorry you don't wish to hear baout my car, but I am inetrested in learning what Caterham have done to the R500 to address the very issues I have experienced. If however you turn a blind eye to other peoples experiences, and once out of warrnaty you get same issues, you are not really going to be able to put together much of a 'not fit for purpose' claim.
From what I've read on this thread, I would not be betting my £40k on an R500 with sequential being free of some pretty serious mechanical gremlins.
Bear in mind that after 7 years with a sequential box, I have not yet found a workable long term solution to the propshaft issues.

Do you miss the banter from blatchat Arnie??
Would seem the opposite is true Other than tearing each other (and people who really don't deserve it) apart over some stickers and the comments of Canonical Ali, seems the old place could do with a fillip
I am a mere neophyte to master of the wind up himself. Worth clubbing together the £40 to get him back and give yourselves something to talk to rather than about

Only one or two of us are seriously considering buying a car, and whilst i cannot speak for the others, all of my questions and concerns were dealt with in a honest and professional way by the salesman. If you are that curious why don't you go down to caterham and speak to them / see the car?
I was one of the few people giving you the benefit of the doubt - as i understand it you are far far more technically minded than most (and definately more than me!) However, making silly comments like the opne above just mean that any respect you get is forgotten.
Why so bitter?

atom-ick: I'm pretty sure the 220bhp C400 superlites have been racing all year with the new chassis and sequential boxes - I'm not aware of any problems. The R5 is only 43bhp more so I wouldn't worry too much about the problems Fat Arnie had with his car. Many things could have been a factor with it's reliability - the old 1993 chassis, the more (claimed) power/torque, flywheel/clutch choice, etc.
