I've decided to treat my car to some new hoses on its dry sump system, and I have been trying to procure some shiney red & blue alloy hose ends in 5/8 BSP.

After 2 weeks of promising Demon Tweeks have been let down by Mocal/Think Automotive so I am back to square one.

It seems that in the 13 years since I made up the hoses on the car, BSP has become somewhat obselete.

Does anyone know where I may find some BSP 5/8 fittings??? I need 7 x 90deg, 2 x straight and 1 x 45deg. It should be noted if rifling through your spares, that they look very similar to -10 JIC except the hose ends are female (convex) not male.

Alternatively, does anyone know where to get the -10 JIC outlet flanges which bolt on the oil pump etc. at a reasonable price? Steel or alloy will do, then I can go buy some JIC fittings. SBD want £22 each, whihc seems extortionate!

If you don't mind steel check out your local industrial hose suppliers, the one local to me stocks every size imaginable, will make up any hose you ask and they look pretty neat to in stainless braid.

I just searched "hydraulic hoses" in yellow pages.

NObosy seems to be able to help, so I have ordered all the bits to convert most of the car to -10 JIC.

I need 1 x 5/8 BSP alloy fitting in any thing 90 degrees or greater if anyone has one in reasonable condition lying around. Cash waiting......

Arnie,

How tight can the bend be? I may well have both tap and die and ought to be able to make something up from billet alloy. Only problem is that I don't have a drill to drill curved holes, hence the bend will be pretty sharp.

I'll have to check in the garage before promising too much though.

Dave, Merlin only do steel fittings. I'm treating my car to alloy fittings as a way of re-kindling the love.....

Regin, I do know of an easier solution which involves a bit of brazing. Maybe I'll do that.....

Just shout if you need a remote hand :-p Bear in mind the stock of lathes and milling machines I have. Or at least have access to.

I thought your car had already gone Arn. Still got it then?

Was looking forward to what you'd do with an Ultima. I still fancy one of those.

All sorted now.

A trip to Think yielded items otherwise "not on the system".

The push on hose is a bit injury prone to work with though. Burns from hot water instead of the lasserations the steel braided type give you.
