Hi,

Having trouble working out the best way to check the oil level on my R400 Duratec. Is it best done from cold or warm?

I've added 1 1/2 litres of oil and it still only showing up on the low marking on the dip stick!!

do you have a wet or dry sump system ?

One simple way to be sure is to drop all the oil and refill to the correct volume prescribed by Caterham then you can be sure its correct.

Check it when the engine is warm and running. Its not very easy to read and if you've got the bellhousing mounted tank dry sump tank there is VERY little between Min and Max

I was suggesting that if you dont know if you have the right level in, and the dipstick is difficult to read then starting from scratch with an oil change might be worthwhile. It may be better than overfilling .
