Hi,

I need to remove the raceline wet sump on my R400 Duratec to try and solve a slight oil seepage.

Removed all the nuts etc after draining oil but the sump seems well and truely stuck on. I know its sealed using a silicone sealant.

Does anybody have any advice or tips on it's removal and replacement afterwards???

Cheers

Its held on by the sealer, gently prise it from the block. Once off make sure you don't lose the 2 O rings and alloy spacer that sit between the sump and the oil pump.

Cheers, I did try prising the sump with no success, perhaps I was being to gentle out of fear of damaging it. Can you tap it with a rubber mallett or will this damage it??

I always just lever the sump, it will separate quite easily all of a sudden. Just keep the pressure on and be prepared to let go.

Cheers for the advice, got the sump off with ease.

However, now have a second problem!!

One of the sump bolts has been helicoiled at some stage and for some reason the helicoil was inserted trough the sump and engine, I suppose to save removing it.

When I removed the sump it pulled the helicoil out which I now need to replace.

Do you have any ideas on the pitch of the sump hex bolts so I know which helicoils to purchase?? I believe they are M8 in size.

At least you probably know why it was leaking now!

Managed to find the correct helicoil to reinsert. It was an M8 1.25 thread which i believe is standard size of thread for this size nut.

Inserted it using a screw driver so didn't need to purchase the insertion tool. It was quite simple. Now just need to silicone up the sump and fit it back on. I'm just praying I manage to put it on and seal it good as don't want to have to go through the process again!!!
