Early next year I'm off to collect a Caterham from a family member, who's not really using it anymore, so now I'm going to smile

It's up north of Aberdeen, and I live in Bristol, so I'm thinking I should hire a trailer and carry it back. Does anyone have any recommendations for where I might hire a suitable trailer near to Bristol? I was thinking I would get a tow-bar added to my Golf TDI and hitch the trailer on that.

Also, the Caterham needs a bit of TLC as it's been languishing unused in a garage for a couple of years. It's a highly modified one with dry sump, etc. set up for hill climbing. Can anyone recommend a good mechanic local to the Bristol area that could help me get it (and keep it) on the road?

Thanks

Millwood had done some bits & bobs to my old one by the the prev owner & he seemed happy with them.

Maybe a bit of a trek but I know a decnet guy in Didcot who did lots to mine tho, far cheaper than any of the 7 specialists, just general mechanic rather than 7 specific but works on all my cars.
Or in Bath I know a decent general garage too that I'd recommend, they do a few westies & 7s & race cars.

Lots of trailer hire places about, but thats a fair old 1000+ miles round trip, so if you fancy getting a transport quote drop me a line as I run a car transport co.

These have been recommended to me in the past although I haven't used them. Neil floats about on here too from time to time.
Not too far from Bristol.

Since cash is a bit tight I'm thinking a general mechanic with a little bit of Caterham experience might be a good option, rather than the specialists. I think the crossflow engines are fairly easy to work on, although I'm not sure about all the modifications on this car (dry sump, etc) which I haven't seen yet. Maybe they make it more complex.

I'm guessing Neil Garner and Millwood would be very good, but a bit on the expensive side.

Iguana, what's the name of garage in Bath?

Sheep,
I know a chap in Peasedown St John who runs an "ordinary" unit in an "ordinary" estate but he knows suspension quite well, looked after my 21 for 4 years when I lived that way and runs a bike engined single seater for fun! And he's a nice bloke with good rates. Let me know if you want his number.

Sheep....Neil Garner is at Kemble so close enough to you and is not massively expensive, he is a very very good and can highly recommend him, he's been running my race cars for over 2 years and him and the lads that work for him are 1st class, he also races a caterham and knows them inside out so......, i'll point him in the direction of this thread
