Does anyone know what the new R500 is like for noise levels? Does it suffer the same problems on track days as the old K series one did?

I know that the C400 struggles on track days, mainly because of the external inlet, which according to johnny from bookatrack is about 108dB drive by on it's own

I can't imagine that the R500 is any better with a similar setup... although I heard that Caterham were working on a solution

Caterham now supply a carbon fibre trackday airbox. This should solve the noise issues at quiet days.

Try and find who supply it to them and save yourself around 50% of the RRP! hehe

You'll need a quiet exhaust too.

It was Reverie for the legacy R500! Unlikely that you'd be able to buy one without going through Caterham though!

You'd be surprised what you can get dealing directly with the manufacturer/supplier for cash (a 30% discount is often the norm. seriously)

Friend of mine was black flagged at Bedford a few weeks ago - even with his "quiet exhaust" fitted.

There again Bedford is the strictest circuit in regards to noise. Plenty of other circuits where you can play.

I was at an EVO magazine track evening where Caterham were there with the white R500 (same one that was on Top Gear i think?). That was lapping all evening, and believe me, the driver wasn't sparing the horses. I was surprised by how quiet it was actually.

Maybe your friend needs his exhaust re-packed (are they re-packable?). Also, i was once kicked of a track day because the wind was blowing in the wrong direction - this does affect how sound carries and can cause cars to tip the sound meters.

Just a though

It was my car at Bedford and I had the race silencer which is much quieter and the new airbox to cut induction noise.
I was 87.5db drive by and 101 static.
That is not that loud but bedford is a pain in the ass really around noise.
