Just spotted a New R500 with Independent Rear Suspension in the for sale section lick. Isn't it the CSR's usually with IRS? That colour looks immense and the fit and finish looks superb from what I can see in the pics. Some ones gonna get themselves a rare piece of kit here!

If only I had the money rolleyes

Cheers

Built and owned by a Caterham Engineer apparently. Must say it is absolutely stunning.

It can't be, and it isn't!

As i read it over on blatchat, it is a home built car (done by someone who happens to work at Caterham). I Guess calling it an "r500" is just an easy way to sell it, and more catchy than calling it a "BuiltinshedthingywotsitthathappenstousethesameengineasanRfivehundred"

Looks well built to me. Nigel Bent's R500 SVR Evo wasn't a factory car - didn't stop it being well built and selling several times for strong money. I'd love to see the engineering on this car. The only problem is the engine - rank amateur built that wink

Dont Westfields have IRS? Surely you can have one of those with 250bhp for a LOT less that has actually been designed with an independent rear end?
Fully appreciate that it may have been built someone in the know but just exactly how much R&D went into the rear end mods? Casting no aspersions but a car like this will (should) spend some or all of it's time on track putting HUGE stresses on the chassis and suspension components. Wouldn't be clever if something went awry on the way into paddock.

Yea I think Westies do have IRS. Do you have / want a westfield or do you just like to see hows things could have been if you spent your money more wisely on a 7! winkwink

Im doubting the number of Development engineers at caterham will be in excess of 5-10 so chances are this bloke helped develop the new R500, which lets face it has been a great success! Only takes a couple of reviews to back that up! How do you know how much development effort has been put into this project exactly?? Have you spoken to him - I'd love to hear more about it if you have! smile Like where he gets that awesome pin stripe for the wheels - that's the muts dangly doodads!

Cheers

Does anyone know what new development (if any) has gone into the chassis on the R500?

PS stripes are available as thin pin stripe tape off ebay for less than £5.

Jepetto - you sound mightily defensive of the car that is for sale, are you a friend of the seller?

The question was....exactly how much R&D went into grafting an IRS back end onto an originally de-dion equipped car? Just curious so please no more agressive defenses please.

No link, sorry. just go to ebay and type "pin stripe" or something equally imaginative, then click out of the clothes section it may direct you towards?
