Hi, just back from spending Easter w/e at the Ring, where I was most distressed to be taken off the circuit for being too noisy (106db at 3k). Is this a common R400 issue? (I've the R500 titanium silencer so it's not super long). Any suggestions on how I get back on track with an acceptable noise would be really appreciated (Ring level is 95db at 3k with absolute max of 99db).

Ideally with a silencer that's a little better looking than the one I see on race cars wink

Thks Tim

ps if you've not been yet I really would encourage it - absolutely awesome circuit and after 75 laps (not all last w/e!) I am starting to get the hang of where the road goes!

out of interest, when did they 'catch' you, i.e. going onto circuit, or coming off the circuit? Were many other cars being tested?

Nightmare! Was this on a normal 'public' day or was this as part of an organised track day. I've never been pulled over for being too noisy, but I'm taking my Duractec R400 down at the end of June...

Oh dear... I've never even seen anyone tested... Bad news indeed. Looks like a quiet silencer might be added to the upgrades list. Darn it.

You dont need a 'quiet' silencer on the R400 Duratec. Done many laps in standard trim and never had any issues. Even the K-series should be fine as long as the silencer has some wadding left inside, just dont be a dick and start revving the engine in the paddock or start/finish area and you'll have no issues.

Holy smokes! 106db at 3000rpm - that's LOUD! In fact it sounds fairly suspect to me, Duratec R400 has passed track noise tests (95db or lower) at 4500rpm.

As vlad says, if you have a normal exhaust with the wadding still in place and you dont act the fool in the paddock you should be fine.

This guy seems to be in DR400....

I've a K series 400 with the 500 titanium silencer which was repacked the week before the Ring so does look like I need a bigger silencer. Just had the engine tuned and checked at Minister last week and that was all fine.

I'm not saying it isn't loud wink and it pops and bangs like a rally car (or gunfight) on overrun - sounds excellent but assume not good for promoting long silencer life!

Does anyone have any suggestions for quieter silencers which don't look like a dogs dinner?

I think you were just very unlucky. Normally the 'ring staff do not check but occasionally have to be seen doing something for the sake of the town's people. I have been there when 430 Scuds have been blasting past me with Evos sporting drainpipe exhausts following.

Perhaps the checks were because of the holidays? Religion plays a bigger part in Germany than in the UK and they do seem to prefer a quiter weekend (shops closed, go to church on Sunday etc).
