Took my wife on a drive around Flanders and bits of Holland on Sunday in convoy with two other Caterhams, a Tiger and a pristine 1957 Autin Healey, beautiful! After about 120 km her feet were cooked. Is there any way to shield the passenger footbox or get some fresh air in there?

David,

We have also suffered this problem, albeit on a '93 x/flow, especially when touring the continent in summer

Our solution was to wrap the primaries in the engine bay, then put heatshield (foamed backed aluminium) around the passenger footwell and finally blank off the heater vents to prevent as much 'heat-soak' from the engine bay.

Although not that pratcial, lining the gearbox tunnel with a heat reflective lining also reduces the in cabin temps.

duratec....haha your kidding right. fk me my feet were on fire. Ask james S about his hot feet at donington last year. he had burns.......

Standard practice to line footwells and transmission tunnels in heat reflective strip. Not a problem with roadsports K's.

biggrin

he only said to help the passenger tongue out:

but at least the duratec driver (and I am one) can sympathise with the K series passenger.

For my car I line the footwells inside and out and use cooltec wrap on the exhaust manifold. My feet and legs are now fine - in fact last nite I was out for a good blat and ly feet and legs were a bit cold rolleyes

I cut a sheet of aluminium to size and bent it to fit. It butts against the footbox wall and is bent round into the transmission tunnel. Prior to fitting it I stuck strips of exhaust lagging to both sides. It is held in place by the battery and seems to have done the job. Thanks to all for the suggestions.

Duratec is a lot hotter for the driver, primaries at the end of your feet, gearbox to the left and exhaust to the right. Had burns to left leg in more than a couple of races but i do rest my left shin against the tunnel. I also soak my boots on hot days.

Much better now with the heat shield kit, sure Cat do one for the CSR whicjh can be used, mine is lined round the pedal box and tunnel, which works, although the new mods to the R300 race car seem to have pushed footwell temps up a bit, but the car is running much cooler and with a raft with more power so i ain't that bothered. smile

James, when I had my gearbox and clutch done I had footwell and tunnel covered in reflective shield. Really have noticed a difference in that its no longer a problem full stop. At donington race 1 my feet felt like they were on fire.

And as for the additional power..........smile thank you please........ pole for r300's vs r400's at silverstone GP was 1.4sec's slower for a car with on paper nearly 50 bhp less...... and your teammates engine has done what...170 hours.... st me.
