Hi all,
Interested in anyones good ideas and thoughts on silencers, especially a k-series and Superlite Caterham confused. Whats the best, whats the quietest, what is repackable, best material, titanium, stainless or other read? 4k mileage on my R500 with a standard stainless repackable silencer and it sounds like a loud out of control and out of tune trombone. Getting it repacked but there is an itch in me to go titanium and high spec cool would that be robust for road use? Please some advise spin. I would feel a little red faced weeping if I was turned away from a track day by the noise level smash.

Perhaps I should keep on driving driving

The quietest is probably actually the caterham rear exit system! Not sure it's the coolest though! Bit of extra weight; loses about 8bhp. "never worry about trackday noise again"!

raceco is probably a better all round option though.

I just removed the rear silencer system. Apart from it looking like a shiny potato bag hanging on the back, I regularly scraped the back box over over bumps. smash

I always expected it to hit the ground, but it only did it very rarely. Quiet though.

+1 - but you'll need a 7.25 inch one and even with that it'll still top 102db - more if you don't have the airbox and snorkels. Only way to get anywhere near 98db is, as Graham says, by fitting a rear exist system. I'm hanging onto mine for when the noise police ban anything louder than a gnat's cough

Good use of smileys!

Try AAS in Newcastle, they might be able to send one out, dont know where your based. They do quality work, all my caterhams exhaust parts have come from them specially made.

When new in 2002, my R400 measured 103db static at 4500rpm. After removing the cat and fitting a 4-2-1 and Raceco silencer, the noise dropped to 96db at Combe and 98db at Goodwood.
I've had some drive by issues at Goodwood, but no other problems anywhere.
