Went for my first properly wet drive (at least with the current setup) on Friday night and it was huge fun, but not especially rapid. Personally, that suits me just fine, but it's not quite the level of grip I expected.

I'm running Avon CR500s all round and I'm fairly sure they're over inflated. To be honest I hadn't bothered to look into the correct pressures, but I did check that they were equal when the car first appeared and IIRC they're in the low 20s (PSI) cold. They're not particular worn and the levels of grip and current wear are all nicely balanced.

So - what are CR500s like in the wet at the best of times, and what pressures should I be running them at?

Hi Chris

Our new Gulf Supersport has CR 500's and I'd heard they should be running about 18. The car belonged to Nick at Midlands and was well sorted - checked pressure and it was 17. Interested to know if this is right.

Very happy with tyres so far apart from puncture yesterday - new fronts arrive today.

Cheers
Scott

18psi cold is about right for CR500s. If it is properly wet no 7 has a great deal of grip, no matter what tyres it's on. CR500s are pretty good though, however their wet weather performance does deteriorate as the tyres wear quite significantly, and by the time they're down to the wear markers they will be utterly crap.
