Unfortunately I have neither the time, money or inclination to spend every weekend for the next 6 months driving to Germany with my C400 on a trailer just to prove a point to a few PH'ers, so I'll clearly have to remain on the lower moral standpoint hehe

Funny enough, I blew the cobwebs off of my old Mega for the Birkett a few weeks ago. I got absolutely soaked, and then whinged about putting my suit back on for standby duty later on... A year ago I wouldn't have even hesitated and I've clearly been spoilt by racing tin tops this year, so unfortunately I can't deny being a wimp when it comes to getting cold and wet!

You hardly ever have to change the rear pads!!!...

Having said that they could have easily been on there since the Academy, I certainly can't remember ever changing them. In fact they could quite possibly have been the only original part of the car except the engine block hehe

you what?

Last time I checked forums where an open place for discussion. It was pitched that this video was how to drive a R500 D properly. Quite a few people agreed, quite a few thought otherwise. Just where is everyone's problem with this? Personally this forum is pretty quiet so a healthy debate is fine. If not the doors that way.... --->

The people who thought otherwise tended to be people who race and religiously chase lap times, some successfully, some very successfully in fast Caterhams. If you want CV's just ask. Not one of them said they could go to the ring and do better, but what most of the disagreers thought was that actually there was a fair bit of time left and actually the way he was driving it whilst committed was more track day warrior than properly.

If the OP puts a title up that this is how to drive your going to get comments, positive and negative back....

Change the title to Quick lap of the ring in an R500D and I doubt you'd of one comment disagreeing.....

wink

Doubt it. Too many pedants...

The 'properly' label in the title referred more to someone driving with commitment rather than a technical coup de grace on lines, record breaking lap times, etc.

I think we can all agree to disagree on this one?

I think many people were thinking it - but any negative comment regarding going sideways in other parts of thi forum seem to be met with severe anger from other forum types. IMO that caretham is being well overdriven, but it also looks badly set up to start with.

Still, an epic save when he left his boot in over that hill, must have been slightly brown trouser moment!
How right this chap was......too much fragile pride around here fellas, if you don't want comments from people whom, I suggest, have a pretty good idea on what they are talking about then don't post.

So, let me get this right, rather than the majority get some pleasure from a few minutes of fun at the 'ring, the OP should refrain from posting this sort of thing because a very small number of people don't understand the meaning of "properly" and think this somehow wounds their pride ?

As I said, is Blatchat down ? Perhaps we could do a test, someone start a thread offering free money, and see how many complaints we get smile

If we get "this should have been in the club magazine first" "what about overseas people, what exchange rate do we get" then we can safely conclude that the whole of the Tunbridge Wells Area has left en masse wink

Being the most voiciferous poster on this thread, not to mention the one person who keeps telling us all that 'it's the 'Ring and it's difficult and nobody understands.....' (yawn), I think Fergus (1000 laps remember)should post a vid of himself - at the Nordschleife to show us all how he would do it.

a) if you don't like the topic, or me, don't bother commenting?
b) I don't video my laps, as I don't have the kit. I can give you details of guys in the Porsche Forum (one of whom one the pro-am Carrera cup this year) who can vouch for my 'times'. Would this suffice?
c) once you've got some experience of the place, feel free to comment
d) I've never commented 'how I would do it', I'll leave that to the real "experts", the guys who race grads, etc. I think you'll find, all the technical critique came from that direction, not me. If you can find an instance of me offering technical tips, I'll concede this point.
e) As I've now mentioned several times on this thread, if the post were entitled "comittment at the Ring", I don't think half of the B/S on this thread would have been posted.
f) the voiciferous posting was in defence of the comitment of the guy driving, which was being dismissed by the "caterham paddock clique" (sorry, club)

Not sure what your point is to be honest? :wkersign:

So it is purely down to ones definition of the word "properly" and how that causes some people great internal stress because it isn't "correct" driving of the track ?

That is quite a bad case of the Grumps smile
