You really need ear protection if you are travelling at 70 (or over) for any distance at all anyway, so I've never found the extra noise from higher revs to be a problem.
Fair point. To be fair, I was also commenting on the nature of the engines - the 1800 seemed a bit lazier and torquier (so the 5-speed was okay), whereas the 1600 is pretty manic even 'only' in factory Supersport spec and hence seemed to suit the racy 6-speed.

Only my impression on fairly brief drives of different cars and 'boxes though. It's true that none of them will be exactly civilised in the grand scheme of things and, at the same time, whatever you get it'll be a hoot. Happy hunting. smile

well atm it's the battle between heart and head on this one,

as for sound deadening, I've got a helmet from the biking days if aeroscreened, and plenty of earplugs aswell so I'll be fine.

Just got some more thinking/maths to do... o it's never easy.

But Chris you have a problem with your car anyway. It only does 40mph in 6th at 8250 rpm biggrin The acceleration doesn't seem too bad though!

What about this if your going for some power. To be honest I'm quite tempted and over that way this weekend I may just have a sneaky peek.

My first Seven was an R300, the VVC model, with LSD, and 13 inch rims, full weather gear, and Tillets.
Drove it straight out of Caterham brand new, did 500 miles over the weekend, changed the oil and filter, then hopped on the ferry, and drove it back here to Mallorca.
Bloody fantastic car! No problems on the motorway/toll roads, six speed box was lovely and "snickety snick", and the Tillets gave me no problems. I wouldn't change to leather/cloth thank you.
Get one! rotate You'll love it. wink Oh, and the VVC is a lovely touquey engine that's as comfy around town in traffic, as it is bouncing of the rev limiter.
(Although it never felt strong to me) It went to Belgium, and now it's in France I beleive. Still going strong and spending a bit of time on track I hear.
Bugger the accountant, you could wake up dead tommorrow! eek
