Incorrigible, not sure I follow you? The picture with Geoff holding the wing next to the car, it isn't attached. confused
It's just that in the (Geoff holding it) photo the wing looks like it's lined up better. The one where you've clamped it looks too far forward.

But I think it's an optical illusion on account of the angle the hub is at.

Also I looked at the wingstay tube angles thinking they were S3 not CSR ones

As I said before, probably best ignore me hehe

Actualy, it might be by 10mm, but if you could see it you have better eyes than me! smile

I measured it when I put it on, as I was told the CSR stays needed a fettle to fit, and so far they have bolted straight on.
I'm also told the CSR has the same uprights. So I haven't yet figured out why they aren't supposed to fit. (The nice people at Caterham said they wouldn't "Becuase of the different suspension, and wheel offsets")
I haven't fixed the wings untill I can get a wheel on, and make sure there's a nice even gap between the wing and tyre.

I may also have a word with Geoff about extending the wing around the rear of the tyre a bit more. They are an exact copy of the CSR wing, but now they're fitted I can see they're quite short at the rear and they'll throw up a lot of muck and stones.
He may have to make me another bonnet anyway, as I'll need a couple of bumps putting in to clear the H1 plenums, and the heater louvers are superfluos.
Plus the original bonnet is a crap fit. Don't know what they did when it was formed, but it curls up on the rolled edge of the curves around the scuttle, and the same at the front.

I also think will have to modify the stays anyway, as I need to bring the rim further inboard to reduce the king pin offset. I think I can some more, but I'll wait untill I have everything fitted up, and make sure the wheel and cycle wing will not foul anywhere.

I have found an added bonus to the CSR wing though. It's a great place to put your mug of tea while working on the car!

TTFN,
Mick.smile

Hi,

I see your comments re the ITV test, I have been fairy lucky with different parts of Spain A Coruna was not bad when I lived in Galicia, Estepona Costa del Sol was by far the easiest, maybe it's because of the amount of Ex Pats that live down there.

The most awkward for me have been here on Ibiza, when I changed my Corvette over onto Spanish plates they were really pernickity with engine numbers and chassis spec.

Hi KT,

I have considered Galicia, as my wife's from that way (Near Muros) and I find the Folks up there very ameniable.
As opposed to the Islands, where Folks sole purpose in life is to make it as difficult as possible for everyone else!
I also lived on the Costa, for about 4 years, Sabanillas, just down the road from Estepona!

Funny old world eh, I had my yacht which I lived on in Duquesa back around 95.

Your are right I lived in Galicia for 5 yrs in Cedeira 20mins north of Ferrol, and they are some of the nicest and friendly people in Spain, and yes here on the Islands they only wish to be awkward & hinder you.

Disc bells are done. The lightweight theme has been carried through on these.
The ridge is to give some rigity and prevent runout.
As you can see it's all just balanced together to show how it will look.
Discs are floating 277.6 x 18 and weigh 2.24kg.
Pads have to be machined next.

I'm happy! smile

Superb Mick, a labour of love.

It will truly be a work of art when finished, but just too damn nice to ever set foot outside of the garage!

Thanks Guys. smile
Oh it'll get out of the garage. I want to do a few of the rallies they have here on the Island. I can't compete as it's not a classic, but I can enter as 00 car and I get to drive the fantastic moutain roads as a closed section. I wont mind it getting a "patena" wink
Anyway, it'll be a while yet. I'll be happy to get it on it's wheels this year.

Dave they're bespoke. All the credit must go to David and Carrie, and the guys at BG Developments http://www.bgdevelopments.co.uk/
Super Super nice people!
David gave me a tour of the place when I was over. It's not a big place, but crammed full of machines. He showed me lots of projects, historic F1 stuff and some Konisieg gear they where working on.
They seem to do a lot of machining for AP.

Just noticed this topic for some reason. Mickrick I take my hat off to you. An absolute labour of love but what about driving in brilliant sunshine as you are going to need some heavy duty sunglasses to kill the glare!

Hi Mick, thanks for your comments.
Polishing stainless steel is a different ball game, due to it being a harder material.
I have very little experience of actually doing it, but I do know something about the proccess.
Depending on the finish you already have depends on what stage you have to start at.
So, I'll tell you what I know from the beginning.
You will need to start with sanding from 220 grade and work up to 600, using a rotary sander at about 2000 rpm. (Orbital is no good, you'll be there untill the end of your days!)
Like this one.

Then you'll need a different type of polishing machine. As Stainless is harder, you use the edge of a disc rather than the flat surface of a pad.
So the machine looks like this.

After sanding to 600 grade, you use a rope disc first.

With course pink polishing bar.

Then a cotton cloth disc.

With a finer white polishing bar.

You need to run the polisher at about 4,500rpm. But be arware the stainless gets very hot during the proccess. You don't want to cause any distotion, or burn yourself!
Any shortcuts you take, will be more evident as the surface finsih improves, so the more effort you put in, the better the finish. There are no short cuts unfourtunately!
Hope this helps?
Happy Polishing. smile

Message for mickrick, I've noticed you're the man to talk to about paintwork. Ive got a painter mate painting the roll bar on my CSR on Monday and now not sure if it should be matt black or gloss black. Looking at the rest of the black on the car (suspension, steering etc) not sure whether they are matt black or gloss black and faded a little. Would be much appreciated if you could shed a little light on this for me.

Ps, the car looks the nuts, how are your arms feeling?

Hammerite smooth black matches the powder coat just fine.

Thanks mickrick for your prompt reply .Bonnet ,side panel and rear panel on my car are near mirror finish but need minor imps so going with any thing like 1600 abrasive is counter productive realy but may well experiment with your other suggestions with fine compound and cotton mops. Once again much drooling over your machine and its intended spec ,having seen a similar engine at Stoneleigh years ago ,like a peice of awatch makersart!! by for now OEM

Hi Mick, no problem. I hope it helps. Like I said, there are no shortcuts. Sometimes it's better to go back to base, as skipping a stage often highlights any imperfections.
As I also said, I haven't done a lot with Stainless, but sometimes I have to get out some marks and minor blemishes with my work, and often I just go straight to the sanding stage.
I spent 4 hours on a wing, on my car at the weekend, just to get a couple of linishing marks out. I ended up flatting the whole wing off! I've been accused of being OCD before. smile
Thanks for your kind comments on my project. There's some nice pictures of the Hartley H1 in the gallery of Johns website.
http://www.h1v8.com/page/page/4566006.htm

Like you say, it's art!
I'm not realy bothered about the numbers it makes, Jack Frost has quoted me 420 for the 2.8 with quite mild cams and a bit of porting, but I'd be happy if it made 375, I just like the engine for what it is, and think it would be great in my car, and something different. (I wanted a Duratec before they where the norm!)

Cheers,
Mick.

After travelling to U.K. last November, with a suitcase full of suspension parts, I finaly have everything back, and my front brake components finished. smile
The Guys have done a fabulous job! I can't believe how light everything is.
Anyway, I threw one side on to see how it all goes together, and I'm a happy chappy. biggrin

Now I need to fit the diff and rear suspension, and sit a look at it for a while, to see what I can come up with for the rear brakes.
I have an idea already..;)
