With an orange on the front, you'll probably want either the lowest RARB setting or none at all

Mmmm... but my old car was a bit understeery, which caused a few brown trouser moments. yikes Would I be correct in saying the front ARB was a tad too stiff?
Or would the rear be too soft? Swings and roudabouts me thinks.
Of course, that was a different car, an S3 not S5.
Oh, and the brown trouser moments where on those pesky light coloured roads here, where they're as shiney as marble! It is slowly dissapearing, and being replaced with the black sticky stuff, thank goodness! cloud9

If it was low speed understeer, I'd start by upping the rear rideheight by a couple of turns.

In fact, I'd probably be looking to have it set up properly by a team that knows a good road setup

I'd rather buy the tools and learn something. smile
It would also be an expensive excercise for me to pay a team to set the car up, there's not many (If any) in Mallorca. biggrin

this is a good book that covers the basics of a setup on our cars.

Blatchat also has a lot of detail on setups if you search.

Page 238 of Allan Staniforth's book, Competition Car Suspension, third edition (ISBN 1 85960 644 X) has a nice flow chart for suggesting how to tweek suspension. Dunno how it stands up to expert criticism, but it makes sense to me.
Still, you'll want a half decent static setup before tweeking anything, and the usual suspects Blatchat, Freestyle, et al. should be able to put you in the right ballpark.

Thanks for the book recomendations. I've read Alan Staniforth's Competition Car Suspension (Fourth edition), also his Race and Rally Car Source book.
Just finished Herb Adams Chassis Engineering (A bit American, but interesting nevertheless).
I may just treat myself to the one you recomend Dave.

Cheers all. wavey

Hi Jon,

Hi Jon, biggrin

not sure what I'm going to do about this yet.
I'm also reluctant to buy secondhand parts, even though yours is obviously "new", as I have to put the car through IVA, and I don't want to be short of any reciepts, that would stop me getting a certificate of newness, for a current registration.
Being issued with a Q would be a dissaster for me, as I intend to eventually register the car in Spain.
I know this would be highly unlikely for such a simple thing as an ARB, but I'd rather not take any chances.

Thanks for the offer anyway.

Oh, and the bypass pipe wouldn't be any good for me, as I hope to fit one of these.

Simple solution, don't fit the ARB when it's inspected.
