Caterham R500 - fast drifting
Discussion
I can't check the car (it's no longer here), but from memory:
Factory road spec springs, adjustable height dampers but not the track ones (wide front track, narrow body car)
(green / red??) reasonable front arb, normally set quite stiff. from memory it was about 1/2" dia, but poss slightly more.
Rear arb set firm, to the proper setting (not that daft comfort setup that makes it wallowy and horrid).
Car on 13" CR500's, set to come off the track at correct Psi. Car not flat floored, as every other session would be 2 up, and our 3 drivers are approx 105, 85 and 65 kg. As a result, it was set to be reasonably flat left / right with 85kg driver.
Rake set w/ no driver in car.
I have no idea if this setup would suit sprints etc, we only used the car on the road and the track - but whatever we set it to for track seemed to be equally good for the road (the car was far from jittery, well balanced), so if anythig we'd softed the rear ARB a couple of notches for road use, and leave the rest the same.

Fergus, which driver?
Remember, I am chatting about a mixed road / track day setup here - On an average sessioned day at Cadwell, croft etc, you'd be looking at swings from:
105kg driver solo
to
65kg driver, 105kg passanger.
Where do you set the cw's? IMO we do the right thing by setting for "middle ish and slightly right" balance, and c/wing at that. By picking the 85kg bloke in the car, we get closer to average, in that it'll be near enough spot on for any of the solo runs (max 20kg load out), and the 2 up runs were nver going to be record breakers anyway. Hell, most track days we never even timed, due to the rules of the day, and track days are about fun anyways.

Fair point if the car doesn't always have the same driver. Very difficult to setup optimally in that case. Have you done any measuring to see the difference in cross weights from corner weighting with the big boy driving (105kg) (I'm 103 by the way: thumbup or the racing snake (65kg) - is this a child by the way?We never went into too much detail re. cw's with different passenger setups - I might give that a try next time we're playing with the current car (will be next year now, that thing is scary enough in the dry, never mind cold, salty and wet). However, we no longer compete, and so the change from hectic racedays to relaxed "it's close enough" has been very plesent.
Now, once we have the car dialed in nicely (after first couple of track days normally), we're more likely to be mingling with the rest of the drivers on the day drinking a cuppa than be lieing in the muck spannering like we used to - so it would mean it'd have to be a radical difference to ever get changed!
