I agree - todays owners want something simple to work on and cheap - that'll be the S3.
>
Here's a rare phot of an S4 with a hardtop, I only know one person who owns an S4 hardtop and he lives in Germany - Hi HSthumbup

Interstingly the photo was uploaded by another PH member on another thread - many thanks to the PH member HorneyTrider for the imagebiggrin

Most books on the Lotus 7 have a section on S4's.
Probably the best book to buy is the hard to find 'Lotus7 - Restoration/Prep/Maintenance' by Tony Weale.
hope this helps

There's normally a couple of originals for sale on ebay, and an enterprising German guy 'Richard ?' has had the book reprinted/copied - I think he goes under the name ' Lotus books Germany', a reprint cost me £23 about 5 years ago.
Hope this helps

Wow - I've had my car to almost that stripped condition, Before you do anything check the chassis at the front Box section [any rust around here buy a new chassis] the other usual area of rust the lower rear chassis rails looks reasonable.
Don't know what parts you need to source, but Redline can supply almost all parts for S4, including the body mouldings and F/G panels, though you may have to wait whilst they get them made.
Cost though will be Very high, If I'd bought that chassis I'd had costed out the parts needed to complete the rebuild beforehand.
If you have the chassis number then John Watson L7cluub Historian can fill you in with the relevant car details including it's original reg number [though he'll want proof you actually own the car before he divulges any details]
Hope this helps

There's a picture/sketch of the pedal assy, in the Lotus 7 S4 parts Manual [Plate X2]. the original Lotus printing has a green cover. the Redline reprint is often refered to as the 'Pink' book for obvious reasons.
When I rebuilt my car I made new bushes for my pedals, and converted the box to cable operation for the clutch. Either way it's a bh to access the pedals with the body work and steering wheel attached [not a problem for you at the mo though] biggrin
Hope this helps

Hello - I apologise for not seeing your original post [July10th] I was on holidays until 17th by which time this thread had dis-appeared from the first page, so I missed it, until you re-posted and it again made the first pagebiggrin
How is your car?
I'd appreciate it if you could post up a picture on this thread of your car. I included one of your car earlier in the thread but a more current photo would be good, how about one with the hardtop fitted, and perhaps some of your friends S4 cars toobiggrin
Be good to keep this thread for all S4 owners to post onto.
Best from Wales

Never did make a Bonnet catch to the drawing you gave me, I'm still looking for an original bonnet catch if you have a spare availble though?
The catch I made, which was fitted to my car when you saw it, was adapted from a Sierra estate rear seat catch, this works a treat and I made it cable operated so it's easy to open too.
Much better than the rubber 'hook' type catches you see fitted to the bonnets of many S4's.
Only other bit I'm looking for is an original 'Later' type sidescreen [the moulded plastic one] so I can make a mould from it and re-make a pair with more elbow room, like those fitted to the latest Caterhams.
Best

Do the sidescreens your son makes have extra elbow room similar to the Caterham sidescreen?
If so I'd like to get a pair, colour or finish is unimportant I'd spray them myself to suit.
Thanks

Looks like it's just had a dealer re-tart prior to sale:-(
Non standard dash[why?????], and lousy harnesses instead of the proper 'Lotus' branded seatbelts.
Has a lot of original looking trim which is a plus on an S4
This dealer has had several poor S4's for sale in recent times, notably a red car with half a front wing missing, for silly money, so if you're interested in this car be sure to take someone who knows S4's with you to check it out.
and especially make certain it's an original TC, it's in the dealers interest to try and convince you it is, so beware!!

Suggest you do the body and interior trim first - that's likely to be the hardest part to source.
Mechanicals - Pah ought to get them sorted in a week or sobiggrin - eother way good luck. Will you have it finished by next summer??

Contrast looks crisper in your shot, IMO UR italics look wierd thoughbiggrin
Wow talk about big brother, never thought PH would have a problem with Cliff's boys. And BTW it's the first time I've heard that phrase mentioned on PH [I'm only a PH novice] - Not really into Altered Images, though I heard they wern't really a bad band.
When I posted up a few wildlife shots in the PH photo section they were all slagged off for not having the right colour balence etc by the Amateur Pedantics who frequent that section - Man life's too short to worry about such trivialities. I take pics that I likethumbup fk everyone else's ideas of what my pics should look like, hope this clarifies the situation. If you can't have a laugh and a joke with similar minded adult personages what's the world coming toirked
Now If you done something similar on BC - well of course you'd expect to get banned for life, just like me biggrinwaveythumbup
Take care someones watching yousmile

SWMBO has a Sigma academy car, - very nice to drive, but needs more grunt like your supersportIMO, they've improved the handling marginally over the S4 but I guess that's 40 years development 4U
