I've thought long and hard about what would make me return to BTaP, location is important, current venue is a bit of a ball ache mainly motorway, so no chance of a good hoon, date, not sure a summerball would fit with all the other summer car related events, price, £60 a ticket for a basic 3 course meal, I'm not fussed about free booze as it tends not to be to my taste, but I can appreciate others are. I want a clean basic room, other than that hotel facilities unimportant to me, late checkout appreciated smile

So what would make me return, I already meet lots of PHers at various events, Sunday Sevice, Le Mans, track days etc etc. So that brings me back to the charity element, I've received lots of advice from the forums over the years, bought two of my favourite cars from the classifieds, I get to use the site free of charge, giving to a worth while cause makes me feel like I'm giving something back. I also really miss the old auction, including some of the rubbish prizes and I've been fortunate enough to win both good and not so great, and I've donated gifts in the past, it really does need a feel good element for me.

One of my enduring memories of BTaP is Shady bidding on that photo, and handing it to Burriana.

See it is exactly that, the current format is not bringing me feel good moments which will be etched in my memory for all time.

It has got too commercial, but its always going to be, when we first went it was the brain child of one man, so had the family feel, now its part of a corporate machine. A hell of a lot has changed in the 10-12 years I have been a part of it.

Didn't we start going to Torthworth because it was bigger? The previous venues used to sell out quite quickly, thus more space.

I had noticed more and more non-PHers at the last few. What I mean by that is that when you get talking to people, they're not from the forums, either there with sponsors or a few of them there for the craic with their one PH mate. None of these are terrible things, but perhaps add a little to that feeling that it's 'not like it used to be'.

We do, therefore, all need to get together (not next weekend) for a party of some kind. Early next year?!

Summer is awash with car events; everything from LeMans to Goodwood to people's personal hobbies too. I think October/November is a good time frame.
I agree, I was just throwing it out there in the 'PH are never going to please everyone' thought biggrin

Maybe it's down to the RWR crew?
I tried, and failed, to get tickets for BTaP when it was first announced. I was working abroad at the time and decided to try again when I returned home.
Before I actually had a chance to get online I was told from 2 seperate sources that the RWR guys would not be attending! I decided to leave it another week before booking to get an idea about who was actually going. I had seen very few logos go up, so I continued to wait, then I saw this thread!!
Are RWR the 'mainstay' of BTaP? Why did they decide to pull out this year?
I also used to enjoy the monthly DDs meetup, but that has fizzled out too! Same people?

IMHO PH does need a major social gathering at least once a year!
Many of the individual Marque forums organise an annual get-together and attract pretty high numbers. maybe BTaP was getting too diverse?

There's what...10 / 15 in RWR?! Tickets needed to be 130 to not make a loss for PH, I think Paul said. I think blaming them, or attributing as the reason, is a puzzler.

There was only a couple of them that couldn't make it when I saw them at the end of September, the rest were all looking forward to it & planning on being there.

I've seen Rviant, Hughsie & Dazren all post here that they've cancelled their rooms (ok Rviant had no logo) but not everyone has them. It came as news to JSG that it was cancelled! RwR rarely post unless for BTaP, Le Mans or DDs.

DDs hasn't died, just the threads for it wink - mainly due to the bhing that started to take place in them about it being 'cliquey' - then the ones that made the fuss started another drinking session elsewhere... Dates for the Christmas DDs are being discussed at the moment smile

RwR are anything but cliquey as you know! The only people they exclude is women and only at Le Mans 24! laugh

Good stuff here, thanks. I will be looking at this as soon as my new staff join in a week or so.

Don't forget that one of the reasons this didn't sell in time was because we went on sale SO late. That was one of the main reasons we failed IMO...amongst other things and it meant we couldn't do the sales pitch we normally do.

As for the 'commercial' element of BTaP I am keen to keep that as in return for a few logos here and there we can pretty much keep the bars free from 18.00 and I like that added value.

We'll revisit this in a few weeks, so please don't think I'm not reading if I don't reply regularly. Appreciate the assistance and feedback smile

I was umming and ahhing; room was booked for Friday and Saturday but not bought the ticket yet.
TBH I probably wouldn't have bothered - the first couple of years at Tortworth were my first and probably now last BTaPs. I've quit drinking which is pretty much BTaP's raison d'être so I'm probably an exception. paperbag

What on earth? It wasn't so long ago that tickets would almost sell out in a matter of days. What's changed?
I think you probably know the answer to that, Jon.

You might want to read that back to yourself.

You're saying it isn't cliquey but then say that threads are no longer on PH and the dates for the Christmas DD's are being discussed privately? Sounds like it is just a private group arranging drinks to me. wink

There is nothing wrong with that (everyone does it after all) but don't pretend they are open to everyone. Drinks arranged by round robin emails or FB groups are not by definition open to all-comers.

But, to be frank, apart from the year Toyo came; they don't 'fit' with us.

EG - there was a LOT of anti BTaP feeling last year because of the Watches - it gave over the impression that BTaP was for those that could afford to drop a few £k on a watch over dinner; which it isn't. The year of the 'golf' incident, it was non PH people.

And as I said last year (and again today) what is the point of a free bar that will only serve stuff we don't drink? Not just me that feels like that either wink I just seem to be the noisy one today (quiet at work due to cancelled meeting).
