I have the same issue with my 57 plate sri, no idea what it is but would love to know, it does it through all gears. Had people say it could be the gearbox

Hi,

I had a Astra 1.9 cdti a few months back. I had endless problems with it which ended up costing me over £2000. I had to have a brand new gear box, dual mass flywheel, EGR valve and inlet manifold so make sure you keep it regularly serviced and check for different noises and sounds coming from the engine.

The whining sound you are hearing is most likely going to be the gearbox bearings which is an extremely common problem with the Astra's so make sure you go to a garage and get that checked out ASAP or you will end up having to have a replacement gearbox like I did. If you leave it for long enough your gearbox will seize up and the car will be pretty much un-drivable.

Get to a garage and good luck!
