What are these like on the motorway for fuel? I'm considering a manual car and most of them seem to be 2.2's.

Cheers

The wife used to run a 2.2i Direct Signum which would get 38 mpg on a steady mway cruise. High 20's around town and 33 mpg combined.

Not bad for the size of the car, think it's because it was a torquey engine for a petrol 4 pot

I'm looking at a vectra too for a baby carrier. There seems to be a lot more 1.8s than 2.2s about though. Even seen the odd 2.0T!

As with everything it depends how you drive it. I have run a Vectra 2.2 Direct SRi for 5 years and 40,000 miles. My motorway mpg is usually 38-ish driving swiftly. It has dropped to 35-36 if making real progress, though 40mpg is easily achievable and I once saw 45 on a trip from Duxford to Hastings without taking it too easy. The 6-speed box helps.

I also have an earlier 2.2 non-Direct car (with the 5-speed box) which is a few mpg down on the above figures.

Some people slate them but I do like my Vectras (I have a VXR too).
