Vectra C Temp Gauge

Hi guys,
I've got a Vectra 1.9 CDTi (150) and the temp gauge doesn't work... I've got a few ideas as to what this might be, but thanks to money not growing on trees I don't have the funds to throw cash at replacing all the *potentially* faulty parts.
My guess is it's either the thermostat, temp sensor or the unit that sends the info to the dash clocks. Has anyone experienced this before and how did you solve it?
