Just doing my usual nosying around used car ads and came across a Vauxhall Insignia 2.8i V6 Turbo 24v Elite 4x4, does anyone know what the differences between this and the VXR are that account for the 60-70bhp difference?

I was under the impression the Elite was an Auto only (at least, early on. I can't find any manuals). It's basically a detuned VXR without the flash bits, seats, brakes etc etc.

So a remap would see it putting out the same power? Could be a proper sleeper.

Apart from the obvious brakes, suspension, interior etc, I have a nagging thought that the turbo on the VXR is larger than the 2.8T Elites. I think the Elites have the same turbo as the old Vectra VXR, whereas the Siggy VXR has a larger one, hence the 325bhp / 325lbft as standard.

Remapped Vectra VXRs make around 300-310bhp with torque around 400lbft. Bolt the Insignia VXR turbo on and the figures are more like 340-355bhp, with torque up to 430-465lbft.

Out of interest...did you end up getting either of these?

Good choice!

I'm considering an Insignia 2.8i V6 Turbo 24v Elite 4x4 Tourer at the moment.

I need a 4x4 car that can tow a decent weight (1700kg+) and has a good turn of speed to keep me interested too. I'll keep it for 5+ years and have a circa 8k budget so depreciation isn't of much relevance. This and a fast Audi are about the only options!

Would love a v8 S4 but they are just too leggy or old at that price to see them as a long term family wagon.

Wish there were more options before just going full size Suv!
