Daughters car in for first service. 2 years from new. 21,000 miles. VX main dealer. She's told car needs new pads & discs. I don't find this out until after she's settled the bill. Question is, car on original tyres, original brake pads. Told pads AND discs need changing. This is a new one on me after many years of driving I've never heard of a set of tyres lasting longer than the original discs.

They say it's the way she drives. Err, hold on she uses the car to go to work and social. It's only 115bhp so not a fire breathing track day weapon. Ahh, maybe it's the type of road conditions. We'll hold on she drives the same roads I do. We live in Kent but she uses M20, A20 & A25. Last time I looked they're fairly standard roads.

Upshot is I personally think they're just trying to ramp up the profits. Maybe I'm just old and cynical.

What experience have other Astra Vvt 1.6 owners had re brake discs/pad life?

At a guess I would say their having your pants down. I've owned a few vauxhalls and your looking at 40k miles from a set of pads and that's with some hard driving. Never trust a dealer when they "recommend" replacing components.

My Astra J (2013) model had new discs and pads fitted at 21,000 miles just prior to me buying it

However, my Astra is the heavier 2litre diesel
