Are all vauxhall gearboxes made of chocolate these days?

Wife's 115 bhp astra J 1.6 auto destroyed its gearbox at 57k,
I have a similar 6 speed auto in a 1.4T gtc
The specialist who fixed wife's gearbox said "if you've achieved 90k with that, you are very lucky.
Various Astra J forums detail manual gearboxes in GTCs being st.
I just wondered: Are they all as bad as the reputation that goes before them.

I'm sure the gearboxes in the Lotus Carlton, the VX220 and the Monaro were okay. All three engineered by other companies. And I'm pretty sure the police wouldn't have used Omegas if the gearboxes weren't up to snuff.

As for the modern stuff, I have no idea.

And having got that fixed. Why the fk does a mainstream car manufacturer like vauxhall seem.unable to make waterpumps that last 90k ?
I mean, the water pump is nothing new or exciting. They should have got it perfect by now.

Mines just gone on my 1.4T astra. Apparently they all do that, and most loose their coolant and get scrapped for head gasket failure.

It's utter ste, if the basics on an engine can't last 200k.

Plenty VAG's just the same as VX on the waterpump front.

I don't think that they are that bad. I've got a 6 speed manual with the 1.7 diesel on a J, 150k miles, and I can't say I've had any issues (so far...). There is a noticeable difference in shift quality with cold oil, and the shifts can feel a bit crunchy if you force them (especially 5th), but they're very smooth when warm. I tend to take it easy until it warms up. It helps that the engine is unbelievably clattery when cold too, so that's another thing to tell me not to rush .

My stage 4 VX220 Turbo broke a few. Which is why I got rid of it, was costing me too much.

My 2017 Astra K 1.4t has just had a gearbox repair for worn out bearings at 65k miles. Fortunately the extended warranty very unexpectedly footed the bill after originally calling it fair wear and tear.

I did previously have a Diesel Astra K, which I took to 120k miles with no gearbox issues.

Fair wear and tear would be 150k at least. I've had clutches that lasted 100k plus in manual cars, so the gears themselves should last 200k.
