I have recently bought a 2007 Mustang V8 4.6 GT as a stable mate for my Ferrari.

One thing that has really surprised me is the brakes on the car - or should I say lack of them, as quite frankly they feel awful, dull, fade and quite unresponsive at higher speeds.

I am looking for some advice on brake upgrades (both pads and discs) and was hoping for some recommendations maybe around the £1k mark, possibly a bit more.

A fellow Mustang owner has recommended EBC red stuff, but I have read mixed reviews on them. I then looked into EBC yellow stuff, but heard mixed reviews on them also !

Any help / advice would be highly appreciated

My current Mustang, and previous one, has EBC yellow pads.

Much better than standard but they are a bit noisey and generate a lot of dust.

Just the standard ones.

Had slotted discs on the old car and they made even more noise. These ones squeal under braking but the old car had constant chatter as well which was annoying.

Also consider changing the fluid. Mine had its fist change last year and made a big difference in pedal feel. I'm also running YellowStuff on slotted disks, and I agree they are noisy.

Rather than dick around with ineffective pad changes, address the root of the issue, which is about maximizing swept area and hydraulic force.

This upgrade is going on my 2012 5.0 next weekend. Requires 19" wheels though…

For 1k you should be able to get brembo (or equivalent) big brakes from the states, check out the us ebay, they pop up quite often. I got my 14in stoptechs there and it's night and day. You need to upgrade only the front ones as the stang uses them for 80% of the breaking. And they don't mess up the bias or the abs.
