I last drove a Mustang in 2006 - a 6 cylinder rental. The only reason it could break traction was due to the plastic tyres it was fitted with.

Criticising the new one for "not being a Muscle Car" is hilarious....

.

This was a beauty. Ford lent it for the last round of the BTCC this year. Shame I only got to clean it but Scott said it drove mint.

I'll get in before someone beats me to it but Mustangs are 'Pony' cars not "Muscle" cars biggrin

Can't remember exactly but Muscle Cars of yore were bigger physically with much larger V8 engines.

This is true but the lines got blurred.
A muscle car was a full-size 2 door sedan with a big motor.
However, the original Mustang was relatively dainty compared to some of the later models like the 71s and the modern Camaro is pretty much sedan sized, bar the shouting.
So, pedantically, you're correct but in truth, just about everything, including Corvettes, get categorised as muscle cars these days. Only an anorak is going to fight you over it. wink

Was reading the other day that there will only be 65 approved dealers for the Mustang in the UK.
If they restrict the supply of this hell mend them.

UPDATE:

I ordered mine yesterday, 5.0 V8 Fastback: Absolute Black, Black Leather and all 3 extras ticked. Due Last quarter 2015 which should be perfect timing on returning my M3 to BMW lease.

Just over £35,000 and comes with loads of toys.

Never been a fan of American Muscle cars but apparently they have sorted out the suspension etc.

Was thinking roll around in it for a year if I don't like it sell it for hopefully no too much of a loss.

This will have a much better sound compared to my V8, can't wait!

That is exactly the spec I'm tempted to put a deposit down for, I'm guessing you've placed your order without driving it? My only slight concern is it seems to be rather wide so I'd really like to drive one before committing.

You'll get used to it and at least you are on the correct side of the car. My Grand Marquis is wider, a good 10 ins wider then my BMW E36, and a meter longer than the new Mustang and it's a breeze once you get used to it, even sitting on the wrong side.

The entrance to my car park is 95 ins and the big 'ol tank just scrapes thru. Shouldn't really use the word scrape biggrin

The correct side of the car has never really bothered me, it's the fact it's between 9-11.5cm wider than my e39 M5 and whether that will spoil the fun on some of our b-roads or not.

I bought the Mercury from a chap up in the Highlands, so broke my wide car cherry on a route that took in fast windy narrow roads all the way from east of Inverness, along the north bank of Loch Ness stopping in Onich for the night. The next day it was Glen Coe, Loch Lomond until the roads widened out for the blast past Glasgow, The Lake District and down to Manchester. Add to the mix pouring rain, low cloud and fog.

Stayed the night in Glossop then did Snake Pass and the moors to Sheffield.

The Mustang will be a breeze biggrin and my E36 now feels like a Go-Kart biggrin

As I've got an E39 as well, I found it hard to believe that but then I looked at the numbers myself - you're not wrong!! Quite shocked. Got me thinking now, as there's already some lanes around here I won't take the BMW down due to its size!

(mm)
Length: Mustang 4782, E39 4784 (same)
Width (body): Mustang 1986, E39 1800 (Mustang 18.6cm wider)
Width (mirrors): Mustang 2808, E39 1990 (Mustang 8.2cm wider
Height: Mustang 1382, E39 1432 (Mustang is lower by 5cm)

Wow! so it's only 3 ins narrower than my Grand Marquis yet 8 ins wider than my E36.
