So who has ordered the new S550 Mustang?
Discussion
Personally I think the roll out will be a mess with luck determining who gets a car first, when they order the cars in May who knows in what order ford will get them and which dealer first, the emails going out seem a knee jerk confidence booster from Ford UK .
Fingers crossed all on here get sorted quickly but as previously said do you want Your new muscle car in salty January?

Sorry, I have copied this from a post I have made following the article about UK pricing but I realised that it might be more relevant here.
Does anyone know why Ford has decided to only sell the Mustang through 'Ford Stores' (yes I know all the crap about it being a halo product etc.)? The trouble is, the Ford Stores round here are all the large dealer groups that you wouldn't touch with a barge poll! I went into my Ford dealer in Louth (John Darke) who I trust and who looks after my cars (I used to work with one of the technicians) only to be told that they can't supply the Mustang but they should be able to service it. So my choice, if I want to get a Mustang is to go to Evans Halshaw or Stoneacre. I really avoided these places when I was in the trade so why should I go there now?
Yes I know it would be a new car but you would be surprised what can happen to a 'new car' before the owner ever gets it on their drive! Also, if there are any issues I really do not fancy my chances of getting them resolved. This has really made me think twice about ordering/getting a Mustang.
I would much rather give my money to someone local who I trust and have a good relationship with than some 'wide boy/girl' in a large dealer group who is not bothered about customer service. There is also the very really possibility of some technician giving my brand new car a 'spanking' during the PDI test drive before any running in has ever been done. I would trust my local dealer not to do this (they know what I am like).
What experiences has anyone else had?

Yep, 100% agree, but I guess this is one of those things about being one of the first to get hold of a special type of car.. I've had to compromise and do just what you are understandably reluctant to do, it's not ideal, but i want the car.The reality of a bigger setup might be that the cars are delivered sooner, that the techs will have very probably already 'played' in one much before yours, and in fact, in theory you could have more backing if something goes wrong. Once you have it your local dealer can still take care of you.
My advice? Get it ordered

Vauxhall / GM did a similar thing with the VXR8's, they appointed specific dealerships for sales and aftercare. It meant a near 100 mile round trip for me to get to the nearest one. I guess it's more viable for the manufacturers to put limited investment into training and equipment for small selling models so they restrict the amount of dealers that can handle them. Fidd said:

Nissan did something similar with the GTR from memory too?I too have received the email conformation.
Received last Friday at 11am, ordered on price release day (20/01/15)
This is still only a "We are pleased to confirm that you have successfully been registered on the 2015 Ford Mustang Reservation List"
I will not get excited about it until I hear of things like build week etc etc, my guess is late 2015.
The US Mustang site has build dates/slots for US orders so I assume we will get the same when production of our cars start.
On a separate note good to see it mentioned on Top Gear last night, they skimmed over it so I hope they will be doing a feature on it soon then this will really hot things up for orders and at least we are all in already.
I'm going to the filming again on the 25th of next month – complementary tickets! – Result.

Tried to order with my Local non Ford Store before Christmas, they said they will pass the order onto Bristol Trust Ford (Ford Store) and had little if not zero info for me so I placed my order directly with Bristol Ford. Never been to them but as far as I'm concerned it doesn't mater. I would say just place the order with your nearest Ford Store if you want one.

managed to get a copy of the UK sales training pack from another future owner (not really much in it that you can't find elsewhere) but if anyone wants a copy PM me and I'll email it over, I'm not the originator but can't find the original thread, big thanks to Rob though
Your welcome Thanks for the replies and info. The distance to the dealership does not bother me too much, it is more the dealer groups that Ford have chosen. I am not in a hurry to purchase so I will see what happens. In all honesty I would rather see a Mustang in the metal before I ordered one, though I do realise it will be a long time before I can do this. I am not fussed about having the first one in the area or anything like that.
Does anyone know if a 'normal' Ford dealer will be able to service and maintain a Mustang? If not then I think that for me, going to Stoneacre or Evans Halshaw for maintenance will be a definite no no, as will owning a Mustang (at least while it is in warranty period) as a result.
I am sure that these dealer groups must have happy customers, but I am basing my judgement on the feedback I used to get from customers when I was in motor trade sales.

I don't know whether I'd trust just a local Ford dealer. I'd have horrible thoughts of the young service techy just out of high school salivating at something that's not just another Focus and getting a phone call from the police "why is your car upside down in the ditch on the side of the A1 sir". I'd rather take it to someone that's used to Mustangs, even if it means driving a good few miles.Does anyone know if a 'normal' Ford dealer will be able to service and maintain a Mustang?
