So who has ordered the new S550 Mustang?
Discussion
Hmm, saw a Mustang near my house this weekend. I'd say it was a 2012 Shelby (maybe an aftermarket copy of)... It didn't look good... I wanted to like it but the panels looked quite bloated and a bit like they had been stuck on after, a bit like the old Mitsubishi Evo's. It has worried me a little. Having not seen the 2015 in the flesh I am putting trust in the photo / videos I have seen. To me it looks much neater, with more organic styling, lines flowing from front to back. Sorry if I have offended anyone, I am sure the 2012 was a great car, just not quite the look I am hoping for.

I'm certainly not a fan of the 5th Generation Mustang either, certainly looks a bit bloated. Infact, going through the older generations, the original looked fantastic and then lots of ugly ducklings until the S550, all a matter of opinion though.Modified S197s look great especially if lowered. I like the look of the 2011s onwards but the first versions looked a bit slab sided to me as did the new Dodge Charger.
Again the later versions from 2011 onwards look so much better.
It's funny how some of the older models, as in the Fox bodies and the SN95s are really growing on me now yet I wasn't a fan when they first came out.

Soo tempted to put an order in for one ... selling my 996 turbo in May and have a mondeo to run about in for a while until the cars ready.
Anyone know what happens if i change my mind between deposit going down and car being delivered - im assuming deposit lost, or will they sell the slot? Just in case i dont sell my 996.
For the money - nothing out there touches the mustang for value and performance.

Chaps - 700 orders they Tweeted, 25 RHD countries I guess UK is biggest RHD (maybe SA) I don't think the queue will be long once they start coming over as "At full line speed, Flat Rock employs about 3,000 workers on two shifts with annual capacity of about 220,000."

If true that's a bonkers number, works out as 603 cars a DAY?! http://www.autonews.com/article/20140828/OEM01/140...

Ties in with what the sales guy at Fords told me that the entire European order book wont be more than a few weeks capacity for the factory, the issue is shipping capacity. I cant see the order book stretching for months as they can pop a 3rd shift on for 1000 cars a day!!!! Christ!
Impressive numbers! Am I correct in thinking that the Mustang shares the production line with the Fusion? In which case, does anyone know the proportion of each that the line produces? When I read that 700+ had been ordered in the UK I was wondering how that would impact on the capacity of the production line - no real issue it would seem! .... unless there is a limit to RHD production? ...I managed to contact the UK Ford Director of Marketing, Anthony Ireson . He was the signatory on the mailshot confirming "thanks for registering on the Mustang reservation list etc .." received by many of people that placed a 2015 Jan deposit. Mine was placed at a ford store on Jan 23rd.

Sorry for not replying to your earlier email – I was out of the office when I read it and forgot to put a reminder to reply on my phone. Anyway – thank you very much for the early Mustang order and for having as much enthusiasm for this product as we do!
Launching a product like Mustang has however presented us with lots of challenges –one of which has been enthusiasts like yourself want to order your exact spec car as soon as possible. We would not normally take orders for new products until we have the dealer ordering system all up and ready but on Mustang the demand from customers to do so was so great we couldn’t hold back.
So – your FordStore is not being difficult – the truth is we are taking orders from customers and keeping them in strict date order so that we can do our very best to produce them in a fair order once RHD production begins later this year. Given your order date below we would currently estimate a mid November build and therefore an early 2016 arrival in the UK. Your FordStore should know more around May/June time when their systems will start to show projected build dates by customer.
Thanks again for the order and hope this has helped.
Regards

It was good of him to reply ...I wrote 2 mails, and now at least we have a realistic idea of delivery dates ...2016 i'm afraid for those with 2015 deposits.
Have fun

Surely that means we're getting the 2016 Mustang with SYNC3 with the switch over from 2015-2016 Model Year being done in July?
That's a question I would really like to know the answer to as well. Especially as it means it's therefore even less likely that any of the early panel gap issues with the MY15 model won't have been dealt with.Gassing Station | Mustangs | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
