American car insurance

Where are you folks going for your insurance at the moment?

My renewal's just come through and it looks quite high to me.

I'm 52, unlimited NCB, no claims or convictions yet I found it a real nightmare getting US car insurance. London, parked on street and working in the entertainment business counts heavily against me.

Bought a Mercury Grand Marquis in the summer and rang everyone recommended but in the end the only company that would quote me was Adrian Flux. £500 TPFT, business use but all driving limited to 3000 miles a year. Oh! it has to be a second car as well so I still have to insure and keep my BMW as well.

Flux has always worked for me.

Few years ago, I had a 96 GT, rang and asked about adding a mate so he could look after it for me whilst I was abroad. Additional cost ? Nothing !
I've had all my US cars thru them.

I have been driving for 23 years, but have been living in China for the past 5 years, so now my NCD is ZERO!! (only lasts 2 years).

When I left I was paying £160 fully comp, protected NCD, business insurance on a 5 year old Volvo S80 and 130 Fully Comp for my Mk3 Cortina, V8 custom car

We returned 1st Jan and insurance quotes have been a joke. A-plan quotes me 650 for the Mustang ('06 V8 with mods) and 1600 for the 55 plate Merc E280. One of the ones advertising on TV quote me 2800 for the Merc.

Adrian Flux I paid 1500 for a 2 car policy, all mods declared, both Merc and Stang. F**king expensive but the best by far!

There has been an interesting Facebook thread on this very topic and RH Insurance seem to be very highly rated. They couldn't help me but many others with classic yanks were getting some amazing quotes. I've been very happy with both Hagerty and A-Plan who have provided me with some great deals so far.

My Monaro and last two Mustangs have been through A Plan (Thatcham Branch) and they have always been very accommodating - even looked at the satellite aerial view thingy to look at my off road parking. Think my last policy fully comp on a 97 Mustang was about £400 for 2nd car, 8k miles inc commuting (but not business use), protected NCB and legal - that was last year as the Mustang has now gone.

Have to say Croyde, rather like that Marquis of yours - always had a hankering for a large 4 door yank.
