Has anyone upgraded their headlights. I was out the other night and used the headlights for the first time. Well, when I say
used, I mean I switched them on and wasn't impressed. Another thought, is this a fault on my car or are they actually a bit poor?

It's a known issue.

You can get a brighter bulb but it requires some modification. That's your only option.

My understanding is that due to the EU requirement for brighter bulbs to have an automatic washer facility the EU Mustangs have less powerful headlights than the US models which do not have a washer requirement.

It is assumed that for EU Mustangs the lighting circuit can therefore handle the higher power requirement but be warned that the bulb fitting is different for EU compared to US so bulbs are not interchangeable.

This is just info I've picked up on forums so it might not be correct.

............and you would have to change the ballast also.

The US cars have the 3 tribar which adds a lot of light at night and is also used as the DLRs
As for the actual main light, I was led to believe they were the same?

The bulbs are different. We get something like a DS3 whilst the US cars get a DS8 (or somesuch).

Our bulbs are 25w and that is the highest rating available in that fitting. In order to fit the US 35w bulb the bulb itself needs modifying along with fitting a ballast.

So it can be done but it's a lot of faffing about.

This might be stating the obvious, but when we first picked ours up the headlight levelling had been left in the maximum "downward" position (during the PDI presumably) - driving it on country roads was a tad scary until I figured out where the dial was! The round bit in the centre of the switch just in case smile

THIS
scared me to death on dark B roads until I discovered they were set 'short' they are actually 'OK' now

Must be because I am used to my old car. I find the headlights on my new Mustang a revelation.

I like the obvious, especially when it's pointed out to me! I'll take a look later, thanks David.
