Finding this a bit strange to be honest: I bought a 2005 GT with 53k miles a few years ago that was a year-round daily driver - the seller even tried to give me a set of snow tyres but I wouldn't take them.

Anyway no rust under it apart from the awful unpainted axle and the front A arms that literally rust before your eyes. Trouble with the A arms is the paint doesn't stay on so I'm not sure underseal would stay on - maybe it would come off with the paint?

Never considered undersealing my 07 GT500 or my current car: a '13 GT500.

Hate the stuff unless it's clear and not noticeable?

Mind you my GT500s never saw a salty winter road...

I used to have a 09 S197 and never even thought about Undersealing and every year at MOT time was spotless
But after reading all the horror stories and speaking to people who advised me to get it done, as its a brand new car and I want to keep it for a long time. If i was only looking to keep her for a few years, would not have bothered. But felt it make sense for me to get it done

I too am a bit surprised by this. I've not had to underseal a car since my Montego Turbo! My last few cars have been MGZTs and currently an MG6 Magnette. None of these have ever shown signs of rust. In fact, you rarely see cars under 10 years old with rust showing. My ZTT was 7 years old when I traded it in 3 years ago with no signs of rust underneath. My current Magnette now 3 years old is like new. According to the Ford Mustang brochure the car comes with a 12 yer anti perforation warranty. I doubt I will have the car that long, but will give it a regular inspection underneath after seeing this thread! Thanks for the heads up wink
Maybe if there was an initial problem, Ford may get a grip before my car arrive next September!

Joined a VW Tiguan forum after my wife got one last year and it seems quite common on there for people to either get the cars rustproofed or do it themselves with Dinitrol.

At first service on ours the dealer sent a video of the underside and there was quite a lot of rusty looking bits.

Generally, brake and fuel line corrosion seems to be an increasing issue on cars just a few years old and it can be a massively time consuming job to change them. So it's got to worth protecting those, although it's obviously got to be done thoroughly.

I have, but it is obvious that Ford don't see a problem! They must be pretty confident that there will be no rot within the 12 year perforation warranty. You might get a bit f surface rust but no holes. I tend to check my cars underneath so will keep an eye on any surface rust developing and treat myself. Tbh, I'm not worried.

Ford have re-done some cars and have yet to issue any kind of statement confirming the factory underseal is sufficient, body warranty not withstanding.
