Hi Chaps

I live in the USA at the moment but will be returning to the UK next year. I have a great Mustang GT and would like to bring it back to sell on. It’s an 07 fully spec’d sans spoiler (apparently only 5% don’t have one).

But how would it sell in the UK? There seem to be quite a few importers and I was recently back in the UK for 4 days and spotted 2, 1 viper striped and 1 regular. What’s the market like?

As an option I was thinking of trading it in sometime soon (so I don’t have to pay 17.5%VAT when I return) for somethng that might sell quicker with a better price such as a Roush Stg3 or 427, or maybe a Corvette or Viper. ‘Car and Driver’ seemed to be quite impressed with the 08 Corvette. It there a better market for these more performance orientated cars cos they are that bit more extreme?

I’d be grateful for your thoughts…

whatever you bring back you can't sell within 12 months anyway! if you do you WILL be liable for import duty and VAT

What colour is your Mustang?

I'm looking for one at the moment. If it's black or grey I'll take it off your hands for £15k in the UK smile

It is also worth remembering that the vehicle you import back to England has to have been owned by you in America for at least 12 months for you to escape import duty and VAT,and then as i mentioned earlier in this thread you can't sell it for 12 months of it being here

There's a pic on my profile

I've found the Custom's rules http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPortalWebApp/ch... and seems that you have to live in the USA for 12 months and own the vehicle for 6 months in the USA, then have the car for 12 months in the Uk to escape VAT. Don't make it easy do they.

There's a local Saleen dealer with an Extreme nearby so I'll head by next week spin

Still trying to do my sums and figure out what would sell best in the UK..

i sit corrected with regards to only having to have owned a vehicle for 6 months then! :P

depending on what your looking for price wise to sell your mustang? it might be worthwhile bringing that over, shelbys are dropping in price,Saleens are quite rare in all 3 guises, but as you have to keep the vehicle for 12 months it is unlikely you will make hardly anything
