Ta, I'd never have worked that out!!

Sometimes I convince myself (because I am hopeless!) that there are many things that it is just not possible to work out in the game and you have to "cheat" to play..

Received Skyrim as a gift today! Really want to try it but I'm still racking up hours on Oblivion (I'm a bit of a late starter...). Do you guys think it's not worth starting Skyrim as it will "spoil" Oblivion? Or will I be able to switch between the two ok?

It's spoiled me for Oblivion, pretty comprehensively.

I'd save Skyrim for after you've done all you want to do on Oblivion - and if you want to go back to it, do it after a decent gap from Skyrim.

It's a few hundred years in the future so actual story spoilers aren't *too* bad, apart from the main quest arc which is inevitable, I think.

I had not played Oblivion before. I gave it a go after 300hrs plus on Skyrim. I only lasted a few hours. It must have been a fantastic game when released but feels old and unrefined compered to Skyrim. SO I would suggest waiting until you have finished play Oblivion before starting Skyrim.

My friend has Oblivion - she came over and saw Skyrim. She wants Skyrim now instead.

Soooo I'd say finish oblivion!

I bought Morrowind after playing Oblivion, it seemed almost unplayable in comparison, despite it apparently being an excellent game.

skyrim has better game play and graphics, but it felt to dumbded down for my liking, it seemed you did not really discover things like I did in Oblivion,

I also found the quests lacked depth and was really let down by the dark brotherhood missions, The cities are much better in Oblivion too. In Oblivion I spent hours and hours just running around looting from the shops, houses and castles where as in skyrim it seems pretty meh...in relation.

Just had to kill a cryomancer... I'm level 26 and she was just abusing me constantly.

In the end I had to use cheesy tactics, sneaked and shot her with my bow (poisoned with paralyse), paralysed her. Then ran up and kept hitting her with sword. Each time the paralyse poison ran out I re-applied another one and paralysed her again until she was dead. Took 4 potions.

Really cheap, but I couldn't find any other way to beat it. Her ice attack was basically a OHKO.

Also, why do some things in containers appear in red text ?

I have a house in Whiterun and I use a chest in their to store apothecary ingredients. Some of them are shown in red ?

Probably they are thing you have stolen. You won't be able to sell stolen items unless you are a member of the thieves guild and can find a fence.

Cheers for the replies guys, I've left the cellophane on Skyrim and put it away! It may be a while before I get to it, it seems like I'm not even a third of the way through Oblivion... smile

On the plus side, when you do play it, it is going to be awesome!

Well, it seems you can't even trust people who help rescue from Helgen, Hod or someone in that house has nicked all me stuff the ba***rds - but they lured me into a false sense of security as it was all there for ages so I kept adding weapons and stuff to it.. Tempting to kill them all for it.....

There are a couple of safe chests in the game but the only ones I trust are in a house I own.

Skyrim is winging its way to me via Amazon.

It's years since I played any kind of roll play came , happy memories of the board game Talisman ..so yup, years ago!

So, any advice about character choice? What quests to go for initially? If thats how it works?

If any help I prefer cunning , guile and magic as against brute force, any advice?

Ta!

There are cat like fellows who are good at sneaking and elves which are better with magic. BUT all characters CAN sneak and CAN use magic

Character choice is up to you. You can play the game any way with any character, sneeky, archer, warrior etc.

There are different starting stats. But say you pick a character that starts with less than 15 points in heavey armour. You pick someone who does not have those stats. Put on heavy armour, get hit a few times, you have 15 points of armour. Some of the racial abilities may be handy, poisen or magic resistance may be handy.

The quests level with you, so no point doing one quest over another. Thieves guild and Dark Brotherhood will bring in lots of money early on .
