yes It's my permanent stone now.

I have recently acquired an Aetherium Crown for my secondary stone (Warrior Stone) to help me increase my smithing quicker.

just started playing through this again, using a mod called "live another life" so i don't have to go through the beginning sequence again and i set you up elsewhere.

On my last play through i was mainly a mage who dabbled in melee fighting, this time round i want to give archery a go, is there any mods out there that will improve my playthrough?

Arrows & bolts tweaks - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/11941/?

I'd also add an AI change for enemies to improve their actions and reactions in battle or when under ranged arrow attack - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/40491/?

cheers will give that a look, noticed that them mods are part of GEMS, looking through the collection of mods there is quite daunting to a modding newbie like myself, once again any mods from there i should be looking at?

I found the no talking NPC mods quite usefull. Stopped them telling you their life stories when you get within 10m of them. Also found one that makes villagers run away from Dragons, instead of trying to take them on with bare fists.

Do not install the LOTR weapon pack, its far too over-powered. 3 Hits to kill a dragon is fun when you've got the sword, but when a Draugr Deathlord has one it isn't as fun.

If you don't have them all the Unofficial Skyrim patches (for Skyrim, Hearthfire, Dawnguard, Dragonborn) depending on what you have as they fix hundreds of bugs that were never fixed.

For starters maybe under the NPC Enhancements - Run for your lives & when vampires attack mods - NPCs run for cover or go inside, some NPCs that are quest starters can be killed by Dragons, Vampires and such.

I also add many more NPCs to the Skyrim World with the NPC Encounter mods - Interesting NPCs, Immersive Patrols, Inconsequential NPCs. Plus extended encounters (not on GEM)- http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/50376/?

I also use OBIS - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/31264/?

And Cutting Room floor, bits of game that wasn't finished but is now - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/47327/?

If you want a challenge of a role playthough then look at the realism section for Frostfall and Realistic Needs and Diseases in the Basic needs section of GEMS. You will need SKSE and SkyUI for use and also the Mod configuration options.

To go with the extra NPCs
Expanded Towns & Villages & patches for below - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/13608/?
Lanterns of Skyrim - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/18916/?
No Snow under the roof - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/51188/?
Enhanced lights and effects - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/27043/?
Inns & Taverns - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/28283/?

Do know about LOOT? Load Order sorter, successor to BOSS - http://loot.github.io/ run that to sort load orders for the plugins.

Ps. almost forgot, Artificial Intelligence Limit Increaser - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/50823/? vanilla Skyrim has a problem with more than 10 NPCs around, any more and they can just stand there doing nothing, this increases the AI limit.

Are you suggesting that these packs are worth getting?

I currently only have the basic version & the packs are 31 or the Legendry edition for 20 on steam.

Well Hearthfire adds a lot of new items plus the new house building, Dawnguard is a big Vampire quest based DLC with new locations and Dragonborn new quests and the new island of Solstheim. All 3 add new content and some mods require one or all of them.

You could always try out the 2 smaller free new land mods first.

Made a real effort to get back into this over the bank holiday.

I really struggled though when I got to the Thalmor embassy. The guards were kicking my ass, I had to drop the difficulty to Novice and run frown

I'm concerned I may have picked the wrong race to start with. I went with Redguard - did anyone else pick them and have had a success? Any tips? Maybe I'm just too low a level (8).

Although I progressed on and managed to get to Riften no sweat.

When I started I went Wood Elf, lots of sneaking about and firing arrows from a distance. Now I've gotten used to the game, I'm a lot happier taking things on with a sword etc.

I'm also enjoying the wood elf race, I usually just find the biggest sword I can find, and mash the mouse button until everyone is dead, but I'm enjoying the stealth aspect

Maybe Skyrim just isn't the game for me then - any other races other than Nordic and Redguard din't really appeal.

Sneaky sneaky with a bow does sound good. The appearance of the character didn't though, but then why should that matter when I mostly play in first person lol.

Race doesn't really matter once you start leveling and puttting perks into the trees you want.

You could play a bow and arrows sneak theif with an Ork or a tank from a High Elf.

First ever playthrough I had the same problem with the Thalmor Embassy, so I left it till later smile

Don't forget every level to get training, early on you can get training that levels you up a few times without needing to do anything else. If you haven't been to the city they are in use the carriage ride at Whiterun or Riften to take you to one of the main trainers.

With the exception of a couple who are quest dependent find the top level trainers, they train from level 0-90

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Trainers

that'll help.

Funny you should mention that - whilst in Riverwood last night I got Faendal to help me get a bit better at Archery after telling him about the false love letter note.

thanks for the tips.

When you start out pretty much everything will kick your ass, by the end you can kick everyones ass.

There is a good mod on the nexus site (can't link it from work), that gives a 10% racial perk rather than letting each race start off better at some things than others. So rather than an Elf starting with (say) 20 for archery and an Orc 10, both start at 10. The difference is the Elf then gets a 10% bonus on that stat.
