Ok it's only the virtual install stuff that will be effected but you can run NMM on the Enderal install, if the Install Info and Mods folders are located inaside your original skyrim modded folder. So when you start up NMM for Skyrim(Enderal version) now your mod list will be empty but will be correct again if you change folder names back to your modded Skyrim.

If you load a new mod in and try and install it and it's got the red symbol next to it, it's because it has been installed on your modded skyrim and the virtual install folder data is still there, you can select it uninstall it then reinstall it. Should be ok now (virtual install info) for both versions.
That sounds promising! So I guess the obvious thing to try is to open NMM and see if anything is showing- if there are no mods there then I should be good to go using that as normal.

At the end of the day I won't be too bothered if I need to tweak stuff to get my other modded Skyrim running again as it could probably do with a mod clear-out anyway (3 years of mods stuck on top of each other), it was just something I had been putting off, mainly due to laziness hehe

Yep, if you open NMM your mod list and plugin list will be empty if your Install Info and Mods folders are inside your Modded Skyrim folder (which you have renamed), NMM will create new Install Info and Mods folders inside your new Enderal Skyrim folder.

Bingo, cheers!

That should all be the case, I'll try this later.

Got it working now but it does like to crash every now and then!
Lots of detail isn't there?

I've never had a crash. I had 1 screen freeze on the skills levelling up but nothing else. Are you pushing your graphics card to its limits? This needs more than basic Skyrim due to the detail and number of NPCs. What game settings are you using?

I get a crash occasionally entering or leaving dungeons (straight to desktop)

I've not had a crash yet either, other than my failing to load issue caused by Steam's auto-updater the other night!

I've been pleasantly surprised how stable it's been.

Awaits deluge of crashes now hehe

Wow, very impressed with Enderal so far. They've really put some effort into it.

Undercity is a huge multi-area place too., I thought at first it was just the initial area but once it's opened up !

Couple of shots from the marketplace area.

I haven't played Skyrim in years.

I stumbled across this thread a few weeks back and decided to reinstall it and play with some mods...

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO ME?!!!!!

It's like a sodding addiction. I can go a few months without playing it and then someone will casually mention a new mod they've been enjoying, so I'll log onto the Skyrim Nexus to take a look, and then before I know what's happened I've downloaded another 30 mods and another spring/summer/autumn/winter has passed.

The game came out 5 bloody years ago and it's still my go-to game.

Although I suspect if I attempted to play 'vanilla' Skyrim now it would feel like stepping back in time. My main Skyrim is currently running just short of 140 mods at last count, and in my opinion looks as good as a lot of 'new' games. Just about every single aspect that could be improved from the original has been biggrin

But at the moment it's all about the Enderal total conversion. It's absolutely stunning, and essentially an entirely new (much, much harder) game. For free. I'm about 12 hours into that I've seen around 10% of the map so far- and I've already died more times than in all my hundreds of Skyrim hours put together!

Same here, I took on one of the Dragon Priests the librarian in the old ruined Abbey managed to duck and avoid him using the cover of the building, didn't take a hit but took him down (magic)

However opened the door of a coastal house and got immediately jumped by 2 desert spiders, dead in seconds. Second time managed to kill one then was being chased around an overturned table like something out of a Benny Hill sketch while my mana increased but was jumped by a 3rd spider I hadn't spotted approaching, dead in a few more seconds.

There was also a beach bar just after the house, looked like an inn. Went in, there was a bar, barman, 4 patrons. I approached...FUUUU suddenly they all became aggressive, they were highwaymen, bandits, marauders and a mad mage. Cornered and dead.

There is so much more around to do, see and interact. The interactive signs are good, can't get the interaction with the Hookah pipes to work though.

In Skyrim it used to amuse me when you got jumped by a robber on the road, even at level 1 or 2 you could quite easily deal with them no problem.

In Enderal I got jumped by a highwayman thinking it was going to be a similar experience- I was dead in 2 hits yikes

Likewise another instance was stumbling across an ancient shrine guarder by 3 'ancient ones' (skeletons). Two of them were archers and one with a sword. I got a sneak arrow attack on the sword one, and that did enough damage to let me beat it in combat, but I had to constantly keep out of the sight-lines of the two archers, as around 3 arrows was enough to leave me at death's door... It made the entire encounter much more tactical, and suited the 'cloak & dagger' style of my character, even if it took me 3 attempts to do! In Skyrim it would have been over in seconds without any regard to cover or positions.

Not playing as a magic user I feel is making it even more difficult for me, but I am enjoying the challenge. The biggest life-saver I've discovered (and my one concession to magic) is the "summon ancient one" spell, which animates a skeleton to fight for me for 120 seconds- which interestingly appears to do a lot more damage, and be considerably more tanky than I am! Just one of them can take care of 3 low level bandits all by itself, it makes me feel rather insignificant hehe

I do wish there's a way of identifying if they're aggressive or not before the fight. My build is based on stealth archery and I really need the first couple of shots before I get swarmed in hand to hand fighting. Trouble is I effectively have to assume they're all bad-guys or save before each potential fight, wander up and if they draw weapons then load the save and start the fight.

I suppose that makes it more realistic, not knowing. I came across a large boat on the shoreline west of Duneville, hid, approached carefully and it turned out to be 4-5 traders with a guard.

I'd agree with this, it's exactly the way I am playing too. It was also an issue in Skyrim as well.

The only clue we have is that as long as you are actively in sneak mode, enemies should show on the compass as red dots. I'm pretty sure they appear on there even if they haven't spotted you. So if you have someone in front of you- go into sneak mode and see if they appear as a red dot on the compass.

It's not fool-proof as it can be tricky if there enemies & friendlies mixed together, but I find it works probably 80% of the time.

Like you say, those first sneak-critical arrow hits are bloody crucial!
