Having spent a sizeable amount of time playing Skyrim on Xbox 360 (and a relatively low-spec PC shortly afterwards) when it came out, I'm intrigued and somewhat torn over the Special Edition. On the one hand, the Xbox One version allegedly supports many more mods than the PS4 version, and mods are likely to be essential if I'm to retain interest beyond a few hours.

On the other hand, I've seen talk of PS Pro offering native 4k support. Ok, that would mean buying a PS Pro and doing without mod support, but native 4k is a noticeable improvement over full HD.

Any thoughts?

For me personally, mods win over 4k support no question.

I'm running it on a later PS4 not the Pro, there is no doubt that from some of the screenshots on here my set up with a high end Samsung 4K panel is near but not quite as good.
What is nice is not having a blank scene ahead slowly filling up with shrubbery etc. which is what you got with the PS3 game.
I guess if you are in the market for a new PS console you may as well buy the Pro because ultimately it's as much about gameplay as admiring the beauty of the landscape.
I've been waiting a while for this to be released and having just about got bored with Fallout 4 I'm really enjoying all aspects of this game as I haven't played it for a long time.
In terms of resolution I haven't done a comparison with the older HD panel I had but I can say beyond any doubt there is a very significant improvement in the overall picture quality with no shudder, delay or crashes.

I've already got a PS4, the Pro would be an additional (and somewhat indulgent and unnecessary) purchase based on its 4K performance. I was leaning towards the XO version for the mod support in any eventuality, but appreciate the input.

Been playing around with Skyrim SE the weather occlusion not only with the rain but also snow, if it's blowing from one direction you can stand behind a wall or building and be out of the blizzard too.

Using the great Enhanced Vanilla trees, custom large with vurts snow trees and LODS - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/76086/?
Works fine in SE.

I downloaded the SE and played a new character creation. It's pretty BUT I've loaded up original game and nexus mid manager. Working through mods. Sitting at about 46 so far with another bunch to add. Looks really good so far.

I loaded up my old save from 2014! Only ever got to level 5 and forgot how to play, looking forward to playing it properly this time.

I don't think I can bring myself to play the new Special Edition until the script-extender is sorted and we can use SkyUI. I've watched some Youtube videos of Special Edition and the thought of going back to that original Skyrim inventory system is akin to the thought of getting back onto a bus after 13 years of driving!

Going back to this:

After years & years of this:

Just isn't going to happen for me! hehe

Somebody's patched an older version and it seems to work OK on a quick inspection. Certainly streets ahead of the standard one until they get around to porting it properly.

I'm just keeping a clean save in the Sleeping Giant Inn at Riverwood and adding SE updated mods are they are released to test them and try out.

One thing I am pleased about is the LOD distance details seems better than normal. I am using a Reshade and Real Lighting Overhaul (first SE lighting released).

That is the brightest time of the day, using RLO it's goes almost pitch black at night, perhaps too dark. My normal light mod is Enhanced Light and FX but that hasn't been ported yet.

I'll leave it a few months until the modding has properly caught up with Special Edition I think. I had a quick look through my current mod-list again and loads of them are script-heavy or animation mods (the default run/jump/sneak/idle animations are pretty dire) that simply won't be viable yet, so I'll stick with my 'old' version for the time being.

On the plus side it looks noticeably better than the Special Edition so I'm not missing out yet anyway! hehe

Real Water 2 updated for SSE with all the new water flow physics but still with all the different water types for rivers, sea and static pools.

Real Water 2 on the left - Vanilla water on the right.

I've got this and it's loads better. I seem to have an issue with my rain though, looks really dark.

1) There is no point starting a play-through on Skyrim SE until I have everything I want installed, many of the good ones have yet to be ported over. It's not as if I haven't played it before either but I have no interest in playing the vanilla game. And I would rather get everything in place first than play for 30 hrs and find the mod I really wanted is released but doesn't work with one I already have installed and removing it will corrupt the save game (if it's a script based mod) the root cause of many CTDs.

2) And I can do whatever I want smile
