Picked up a physical copy for £24 the other day.

Have to say I am seriously impressed at the speed of loading compared to my recollection on the PS3. If that shows just how much more powerful a PS4 is that is amazing. I mean, it can take a couple of seconds to load whereas I recall a good 15-20 seconds quite frequently on the PS3.

In the early days on pc it was slow to change location etc, even with the game on an ssd.
With the patches and updates its a few seconds now.

So perhaps not just the hardware differences between the consoles, but some optimising in the mix also.

Have fun. smile

Just to add that with a PS4 pro and a decent 4K telly Skyrim on a gaming console rather than a high end gaming PC is at long last nearly there. Haven't stopped playing it and dread to think how many hours of my life it's sucked away. Along with a decent surround sound system it completely immerses you.

Skyrim, like Fallout, are time vampires. I actually stood close to the TV whilst it was on a "you've not done anything for a while" screen, the details on the walls etc were superb. Wonder how much I miss sat 6ft from the TV

I've set myself up a room dedicated to the gaming console so I have a 55 inch telly which I sit about 3 foot maximum from so my field of view is literally the game screen. Once the settings on the 4K telly are set up correctly every detail including the smoke from fires is superb.

WOw that must be awesome. I have to say I do enjoy having a look around at the graphics, went into a Dwemer ruin today, the effects are superb, like the faces on the golden things as you go past. And even the ghosts who have clear faces, and the etheral things that attacked me the other day, with their red eyes. Just so much more detail than the PS3, it is great.

And I have the Dawnguard extra with this version too, cross bow is my new toy

It's just a pity it has taken so long to reach this point though, still it's all about gameplay too not just pretty graphics.

Is it not a tad annoying not be able to run mods and get achievements? I'm picking back up on Fallout 4 on the Xbone, which has some pretty juicy looking mods, but to run with it I wont be able to collect achievements.

Having just got this again for PS4 (had on PS3 previously) i'm finding the game play very difficult at times as i just can't see where i'm going!
The graphics in daylight are great but in caves and night its unplayable.
I've attempted altering the TV settings to make it better which has helped but surely the game itself should be set to give maximum effect/play-ability?

Since its been a while and leveling up is taking forever, are there any tips to get back into this and up to some kind of level where everything is enjoyable and exploring is fun rather than a risky challenge?

Found someone called Katrina in a Dwemer Ruin - is that a Dawnguard or other DLC thing? Because I sure don't remember it from the PS3....

Edited to say, sorry it is Dawnguard.

didn't spot it on her wiki page but it does on the quest page above. If it's Katria you mean.

As far as darkness is concerned I've found them a tad darker too, just get hold of some torches it makes life a lot easier. I spent a fortune on iron ingots to up my blacksmith ability I'd say it's the easiest to gain levels on plus you can make and repair some useful items. There comes a point where you are not so weak I have it on the easiest setting for quite a while.

Nipping into Dwemer ruins can yield a lot of dwemer metal (<Adjective> Dwemer <something> goes into the forge to become ingots) which (once you can smith it) makes bows that give excellent smithing experience.

One problem with overdoing the noncombat levelling without keeping up with combat skills is it can cause enemies to get disproportionately strong. However I seem to be managing ok so far...

Ah thank you, that does at least explain why I've not seen her before.

And as for dark crypts and caves etc. Well, yes.. They are crypts and caves lit by small pyres etc... You can use magelight if you get really desperate but for me a lot of that is most atmospheric, creeping around in the near dark etc..

Th Katria quest is one of those rather sad ones you come across in Skyrim. I was attacked by Taron Dreth and his bodyguards some time after the quest along one of the roads, but it was at the same time I was being attacked by a load of Vampires so I think he got away but I plan to hunt him down the dog that he is.
