Dawnguard 30% off on Steam, so now £9.79
That's a good start. I'll wait for 50% off. smile
There is a time limit on how long it's going to be for sale...

Based on my experience of Fallout: New Vegas (also by Bethesda), it'll be on sale again in a month or two and at a better price. I'm in no rush.

Question does turning into a beast lets say effect the other quests you do? I remember on previous instalments that I'd you became a vampire it screwed you over. If I become a wolf will that screw up the other missions and what I am able to do

Well, for a start you don't get the "Well Rested" perk any more. And also the guards tend to taunt you with things like "Is that hair growing out of your ears?" which isn't very nice if your character is female. Although, having said that, being able to rip their heart out with your bare hands for saying it does tend to balance things a bit. hehe

Does Dawnguard carry on as a main story? or it in it's own sub menu from the start screen (like the RedDead Redemption undead nightmare add-on)

Turning into a Werewolf makes your marriage ceremony in Riften one to remember.

I don't recall joining the dark brotherhood, or maybe I did....Until Sunday I'd not played this since about April.

Yep, it also adds new things to the Skyrim world like crossbows, new monsters, new places and 39 new quests. And like any side quest you can leave it at any break point and do something else.

What?

They're happy because their cruel, evil mistress got shot with an arrow in the neck...

That does sound strange...

I found entering the Arentino house for the first time to be very very creepy.

I had never had an intention to join the Dark brotherhood, only to destroy it

I didn't either, but the quests are pretty good. I ended up leader of The Companions, Dark Brotherhood, Archmage of The College Of Winterhold, thane of all Whiterun, Winterhold, Riften, Markarth, Dawnstar, Solitude and Windhelm. I've not finished the bard quests.

AND, despite all this, you STILL get thieves saying "hand over your money or there will be trouble"........ Well, for the few seconds they live.

Thieves guild? Those small quests to become leader take an awfully long time. I got a bit fed up, but I'm glad I did them all.

Agreed. I left it to last, and found them incredibly tedious. Only persisted because I decided I had to get a PS3 platinum trophy having invested so many hours of my life into it...!
