I have Oblivion on my laptop and Skyrim on my desktop.
Skyrim has a better world environment, graphics and playability as a newer version should have.
Oblivion has better and bigger cites, and a couple of things Skyrim should have (if not modded) such as head turning to look at the person speaking to you, those are the positives. The negatives after playing Skyrim are a dreadful and clumsy menu system, no dual wielding, empty world with not a lot of people around, clumsy dialogue system, no sprinting, ugly people. Don't like the way the armour rating works. And did I mention the clumsy menu system? No shortcut for the world map, you have to go through the clumsy menu system.
Quests are similar, multi-stage and the same prioritising as Skyrim.
I have Oblivion on the laptop as it struggles to play Skyrim (even on reduced settings) but Oblviion plays fine I have even added a few things such as Natual Environments and some graphics extenders for higher res textures.
All in all Oblivion is a game from 2006 and a lot has happened since then.
Oh yes, the levelling, you can only level up when you sleep. So when you get to the end of one level don't forget.

This is a good guide - http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Oblivion
then as you've installed on PC go here - http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/categories/
Another thing I don't like about Oblivion is having to use 3 different mod managers, Wyre for installing OGE (Oblivion graphics extenders) OMM (Oblivion mod manager) for OMM files as they handle them better and NMM (Nexus Mod Manager) my installed of choice as it does all of Skyrim for zip/RAR based installs. It's just the way some have been packaged because NMM arrived on the scene later.
Whatever you want to try get this first - http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/5296/
I used OMM to install that.

Tell you what I miss using a repair hammer from Obvilion and Morrowind, I thought that was a clever feature.
I also prefered the perks for example just by jumping around your jump was improved as was your stamina by running around, I think the new system with a select few perks that form the star constellation is not as good as Oblivion.
I also preffered the cities/towns on Morrowind compared to these new ones on skyrim.

Fo3 and Fo:NV also had degrading of weapons which required them to be repaired. I thought that the removal of the concept from Skyrim rather whiffed of "dumbing down", sadly. JonRB said:

Yes me too. It was a good feature in that you had to keep an eye on your weapons and armour after battles etc...I think the creatures in Skyrim are great though, giants and dragons are a great addition.

Using the various smithing materials to repair relevant stuff would have worked though, would have been nice if they'd improved it rather than just cutting it altogether.

Hmm, graphics turned out carp. I think skyrim is better, the leveling system and perks are much easier to understand as a start...
And what does acrobatics do?
Skyrim will be a lot better on graphics but you can make Oblivion look better. And what does acrobatics do?

Better Cities - http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/16513
Unique Landscapes - http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/19370
Natural Weather - http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/18305
Acrobatics - moving during combat. These can also be improved - http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/14948
There's one more Quarl's Texture Pack - http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/18498
I don't use it on my laptop (I might if I put OB on my desktop) I think it's the equivalent of the HD textures addon in Skyrim.
and the Ultimate Oblivion companion, tested and added to by Discworld author Terry Prachett - http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/28977 she's fully interactive, not just following you as in Skyrim, you can follow her and take part in more activities.

My new fun thing to do in Skyrim is hunting Deers and other animals with the force shout. You carefully sneak up behind them, let rip with a shout and then smirk as deer, foxes, goats etc go cart wheeling through the air.
I wish it was possible on the 360 to increase the power of the unrelenting force shout - would love to fire a someone out of the map.

Get yourself a cannon fodder companion that you'll not need again go up to the highest mountain with a good drop below go to the edge and manoeuvre around to get the companion on the edge then let rip I wish it was possible on the 360 to increase the power of the unrelenting force shout - would love to fire a someone out of the map.
