I've been into computer games since the days of the speccy 48k and can honestly say that I've never played a more addictive game than BF3 - I cant think of any other game that offers the never ending satisfaction of digitally blowing up 3 random strangers in a tank with C4 explosives. Just me? Any more addictive games out there that I've not played? PS Fussyfez you killed me about 20 times last night on the PH server you swine! (Tyrone-Ranger76)

For me, yes. The only other game I have had the same level of addiction was Delta Force:BHD, but that was because then I was in a clan, making it that much more addictive.

I'll agree, BF3 is one of the best games I've ever played and keeps me going back for more all the time. Its actually a brilliant time to be into games, with the ever increasing provision of online multiplayer games, as it just makes gameplay infinite. You no longer rely on a game providing a certain amount of hours game time, but can take it online and continue to play however long you want to.
For me, not many games keep me coming back again and again. However, Half Life does this for me, in that regardless of how many times I complete it, I'll start from scratch again, just because its such a vast and incredible game.
I also regularly go back to the Command and Conquer series. Don't really mind which one, whether it be the original, Tiberian Sun or the original Red Alert, so I can see how many power stations it'll take to surround my entire base with tesla coils, just to wait for the next platoon of ground units to get annihilated.

There's certainly something to be said about game design companys designing the games to be addictive. But I've played hundreds of hours of Battlefield games since the original, I think it's just perfectly balanced at offering so many different ways of getting involved in the fighting. Certainly gets the blood pumping when I'm screaming over comms to get my mates to rep my tank

BF3 is as addictive as Cod 4 was for me when in it's heyday. Every game you can do something different.. play in a tank.. Jet. Jihad in a hummer etc. It's a good game.

I'm not so sure. I've spent a good few hours on it now, and I just don't seem to be able to gel.. I want to like it so much, it just doesn't make me want to play it. Every time I think I'll give it another go, I'm reminded within 10 minutes what a pissing frustrating game it is. Probably be going on ebay soon

Only ever been addicted to BF3 gamewise usually I get half way through games and move on I think I have only ever completed 4-6 games in my life. But BF3 i just keep coming back to because you can jump straight into the action for a quick bit of killing or team up with friends and play tactically.

It can be frustrating at the start with so many expert players out there but you have to push through that barrier - after a while persevering and unlocking better weapons each time you play it gets better, just gets easier and more fun. ON YOUR FEET SOLDIER!

Probably be going on ebay soon Not trying to convince you too much, but have you played with a clan/team of your friends/PHers? It makes all the difference playing with people you know or people who have a similar playing style when you first pick it up. I find with the BF games, I have to have a good run of playing to actually find myself doing well again. If I were to play it for the first time in a couple of weeks, my first half hour would be spent getting battered until I get back into the habit, or find the right way to play against the people on the server. That alone is a key benefit for me, as it forces the players to adapt their style depending on the types of people playing. Granted you do get a lot of spray and pray types who tend to get lucky, but I normally come away from the game feeling like I had a fairly good run.

I don't understand how people can kill me in one shot with it, but sometimes it will take me three or more shots to drop someone?! I reckon I've been given dodgy ammunition. I'll give it a few more chances, is there a friendly PH group I can tag along with and pick up some tips?

Cypher, please DO convince me. It really a magnificent game, very polished. It may well (definitely) be that I'm just s te. I think the fact that I usually pick up games fairly quickly has made me sulk and throw my toys out of the pram. Lots of "Why won't he f kING DIE!!! Oh, f k THIS!!!" followed by the case being chucked back on the shelf in favour of COD.

It is a good game yes, but I find it's fun factor increases immeasurably when played with friends. I can play the odd game and then leave if I'm playing solo but as soon as I fire up Teamspeak I can be there for hours. If we're on the same side we work as a squad, checking squad perks etc and all moving as one and end up with ace squad and a win 9/10 times. If we're on different sides the banter is great.
Best played with friends!

Don't go sniper, the game is much more fun as Assault/support and your more use to your team.
Join the PH gang or consider BSM (British Seargents Mess, that's where I play, they are a great bunch). Use Teamspeak and join in the chat and banter.

(i still do btw esp. recently) however I got to grips with Rush first and learned that you can help your team win by not "rushing" in and staying alive that bit longer so your team can survive etc... it might help to stick to one or two maps religiously until you get used to them and then moe on. I started big and then went small - TDM can be brutal as can SQD DM. SQD rush might also help you get familiar with tactics etc. stick with it and go with a defensive load out to begin with - claymores, shotgun or lmg, flak defence - you might live longer and clays will give you that odd free kill / assist to help your score. Zaxxon said: Don't go sniper, the game is much more fun as Assault/support and your more use to your team. Not sure I agree with either of those claims - some of my most enjoyable moments have come whilst playing recon (sniper) - 850m headshots, headshots on heli pilots, headshots on other snipers, unloading the 93R into an assault guy's face just at the moment he thinks he's got the jump you, the list goes on... Recon played properly can be a massive help to your team, deploying a motion sensor, SOFLAM or spawn point at critical sptos gives your team a huge advantage and a well placed sniper can defend one or possibly even a couple of objectives all on his own in some cases. Back on topic though, BF3 is by far and away the game I've spent the most time on and I have spent a lot of time playing games back in the distant past.

"Stay with me soldier" Hooah Thanks for the advice, I think it is that my style of play (learnt in halo) is very much that if someone is shooting me, I still stand a chance of being able to kill them first. I don't think that's how this game works however! I was watching a mate play yesterday, and he ran away so much more than I ever would, but ended up being a far better team contributor. If someone could push me in the direction of the xbox clan if there is one, I'll see if i can get on tomorrow night and provide some entertainment for everyone.

I think the key in BF3 is to either stay out of sight on the big maps and keep moving on the small maps. You can be one shot killed in BF3 by all manner of weapons and suppression limits your ability to return fire drastically, so it's best to make sure you're always firing the first shot. I found fitting a suppressor to my weapon was a big help when starting out, as you're not sure where enemies will approach from and giving away your position on the mini-map by firing unsuppressed was tantamount to suicide.

I'll play alongside you Alex, if you add me. CypherP as on here. I'll play assault alongside you, so can play medic when needed. I agree with the comments on here. Would be easier to either play in a small game with other people you know, or stick to the same class and the same map, so you can get used to routes, vantage points and key map points.
Stick with it if you can. Once you crack that first game, getting towards the top of the leaderboard, you'll be very happy with your efforts! The game is made purposely taxing to start with, especially seeing as most people you're playing with will have all manner of weapon unlocks which makes taking people out fairly tricky from a distance, and yet easy for most other players against you.
Once you start to roll in those unlocks and your arsenal expands, along with your playing skill and accuracy, you'll have no problems having a bloody good game and wonder why you got so frustrated before! For starters, although fairly hectic, I'd recommend getting some good rush games in Operation Metro. Some may disagree, but this will be the most hectic most games will get, in terms of action happening constantly. It will also give you an idea of where enemy appear from, going for multi-kills, supporting your team and protecting or destroying the sites. I'll happily join you one evening though and take it from there, as I've ben fairly preoccupied with Forza and more recently Trials, so would be good to fire it up again.
