Obviously, back in the day there was Resident Evil and the (infinitely better) Silent Hill... In recent years, we've seen the Dead Space series emerge, both 1 & 2 very good and somewhat tense affairs... But, by golly, I've just started playing Amnesia - The Dark Descent, and I am s tting my pants! I'm not sure if I'll get very far with this, it's that scary! Anyone else got any scary favourites?

It's an old game now, but 'Half Life' terrified me from the comfort of my lounge!

That's the one I was thinking of - Colonial Marines! Cry of Fear looks like a good'un - Apparently it's a Half Life mod, or something.

Two of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, Shadow of Chernobyl and Call of Pripyat going into the labs. And other bits.

Fatal Frame/Project Zero. Used to play the third iteration through with my mates on the PS2, it'd eventually get to a point where we'd all refuse to take the controller. Was gutted they didn't bring the fourth game over here or release it on the PS3/360.

Only game that had me jumping was Alien Trilogy back on ps1, the way the facehugger just jumped out of the blackness and landed on the screen.

Metro 2033 is quite decent. Not full on s t scary but jumpy. Another vote for AVP, when the sensor is going and you can't see anything the tension is mad!

Alan wake is quite good at making you jump but it is described as a "psychological thriller".

The thief series had its moments..same developers as system shock 2 I seem to remember the shalebridge cradle level from thief 3 being voted the scariest game level ever..that was before amnesia came out though..

The Darkness, while not that scary, was particularly grim.
