Got on last night but only for 30 mins and the server restarted so will have more luck tonight hopefully. Managed to kill 3 people in cherno though within 5 minutes and upgrade from an ak74-su? to an m4a3 cco 
(Shoot on sight until i am in a group and serving a purpose!)

Im online on TS and ingame if you wanna hop on?Got to say this game looks fantastic but also daunting to learn. But Arma2:CO is for sale for £14.99 at https://store.bistudio.com/arma2-combined-operatio... so... it's a good sounding deal! Methinks I'll get it!
It has been made very tough to get started on. I would advise just heading into one of the main cities and then loot until you find a gun. As soon as you do, get out and head north. Also, make sure that you evaluate all situations. Don't just shoot at people as you never know what is waiting in reserve. We had 10 guys running around today. 2 would raid an te rest would post up outside the town ready to come and help out.

I did a few lone wolf raids on the northern airfields early this morning in the hilux and added a few weapons (even though we have them already) in the back of the trucks. I have also acquired an ATV from someone who hid it in a tree just north of our camp position and marked it on the map!! (moron haha!)
Not far from camp there is another downed huey which i will show you guys when i am next on! Thanks for the night vision too. Helped massively doing the runs I saved all the vehicles/tents upon logging also.

Sounds like you guys have got some good gear. Do you ever come down around Cherno? I need a pickup ideally from the northern side as every time I have tried to make a move out I have had a lot of rounds come my way. People are constantly looting the place and in over watch. I don't want to die with my M4A1 CCO and other gear though!
